How to get the next Giannis or Nikola Jokic

Post#1 » by atlantabbq99 » Sat Jan 5, 2019 2:07 am

Nikola Jokic
Strengths: Very high basketball IQ, This is his greatest strength. Strong personality. A team player. Has a great work ethic ... Tremendous length ... Can really shoot the ball ... Hard worker ... He was first introduced to real professional training – strength and conditioning as well as basketball workouts in September of 2013 and has shown tremendous improvement in his body ... Possesses a big wingpan ... Considering the fact that he competes in the Adriatic league, where most players are older than he is, and also that he's an average athlete, he uses his basketball IQ to succeed... Nikola understands the game really well. Furthermore he is able to follow and execute coach’s instructions. Shows a winning attitude, competes hard in games and practices ... A self starter, doesn't need to constantly be pushed to get the most of his abilties ... Well liked by teammates, outgoing, strong character, doesn't drink or smoke

Giannis Adetokoubo
Strenghts: Athletic wing with a remarkable 7’3” wingspan of and incredibly huge hands ... He’s still in the development stage and has grown three inches since last year ... Standing 6’9”, he has amazing mobility and body control for a guy his height ... He’s able to change directions off the dribble and with the ball in his hands with incredible smoothness and quickness, getting to the rim while maintaining excellent balance ... His athleticism and wingspan make him able to cover 4 positions on the floor, showing great versatility ... He has a natural feel for the game and a good basketball IQ, with good passing skills and instincts and the potential to become a point forward at the next level ... Thanks to his big hands and his creativity, he’s an amazing ball handler for his position

Marc Gasol
Strengths: Physically Gasol has great upper body strength Like his brother has a great set of soft hands ... Does a great job of establishing himself in the post Fundamentally he is as sound as they come in the post Displays a rare combination of power and soft shooting touch It is not uncommon for Gasol to overpower his man and then shoot the ball off the glass Back to basket skills are quite advanced Owns a good assortment of moves as he can shoot the jump hook, turnaround jumper plus spin off his man for the soft finger roll Quality rebounder in his area who does a solid job of boxing out opposing players Hard player to double team as he keeps the ball high and away from guards and has the court vision to quickly kick the ball out to open teammates Enjoys physical contact in the lane where he does an excellent job of drawing fouls from opposing defenders Shows the ability to absorb contact and finish with relative ease Does a good job of denying his man position in the post Intelligent player with a great work ethic

Draymond Green
Strengths: The ultimate "Glue Guy", Green's strongest asset is his ability to contribute across the board ... He has a substantial wingspan with a strong frame, and is unafraid to bang with bigger bodies ... Good-looking shooter when his feet are set and he catches/releases in rhythm ... Can stretch the floor with NBA 3-point range ... His vision, passing and ability to facilitate out of the post make it difficult for off-ball defenders to keep their eyes on their man and the ball at the same time ... Reliable mid-range jumper ... Green is slippery with his back to the basket, with the ability to spin baseline or turn across the lane for the finish ... Terrific rebounder thanks to the combination of an aggressive motor and soft hands ... Unselfish and timely passer ... Overachiever. High basketball IQ ... Makes those around him better, possesses sense of maturity and leadership qualities

Paul Millsap
Strengths: Tremendous rebounder who gives great effort every time out ... Long arms and good strength and leaping ability allow him to play bigger than his actual size ... Crashes the boards extremely hard, especially on the offensive end ... Has a real knack for anticipating boards, great reflexes ... Offensive skills inside are good, has a decent mid range jump shot out to 12 feet ... Good scorer, finisher, has good touch around the basket with contact ... Has good agility, runs the floor well. Solid in transition ... Explosive leaper ... Solid defender, holds position well, doesn't bite on fakes ... Offensively creates a wide target inside and seals his man well

Hawks can try to use their mid first round pick on a super athletic hustle defensive wing player like Kawhi, Paul George, or Jimmy Butler, but another way to get the steal of the draft seems to be targeting a post player that is considered to have a High Basketball IQ and guard skills or handles, with not that much concern about athleticism.

Who do you have as the highest IQ player in the up coming draft?

Who do you have as the big or post prospect who has the best guard skill or dribbling/passing skills in the draft?

Notice that none of those guys were lottery picks and most half were second round picks from overseas.

With that in mind:

Sekou Doumbaye

Grant Williams

Bruno Fernando

each fit the bill.

Don't see High IQ or PG skills on the scouting report for any of the guys listed.

Step 1. Don't trust soon-to-be fired employees with your draft plans.

Step 2. Profit

You can thank Ferry for that. He deserved to be fired for that alone. How do you fire a guy who was heavily involved in your draft intel before the Draft? Ferry had to realize how stupid that was after Drew immediately got hired by the Bucks and that they were a pick or two ahead of us. That blunder, his drafting, and trading Lou Williams away as "filler" with Bebe while his value was at an all time low placed him firmly under Knight and Babcock as the worst Hawks GMs ever IMHO. :nonono:

There are still a few people here that say he is a good GM

Just the fact that he couldn't surround one of the best franchise building blocks in nba history in LBJ with good talent after 5 years should be enough to tell you he isnt a good GM.

He is average at best.

Stop throwing away 2nd round picks. And maybe start investing in draft and stash options...
