The AthleticChris Kirchner wrote:Q. Any update on Kevin Huerter extension talks?
A. Nope. The two sides are having conversations, but it’s likely nothing will be decided until closer to the start of the regular season. If I were betting, they won’t get a deal done and will revisit his contract next offseason like they did with John Collins. It worked out for Collins because he ended up getting more money than what he was originally offered a year prior.
Is Huerter the odd man out? (Update: Huerter traded to SAC)

Good thing!
Actually, if the new TV deal is huge, and the Salary Cap goes up the way it's predicted,we can easily keep all of them for years.
Even if the Cap increase is spread, it should be enough, but I smell a big jump in the first year with spreading after that, big market teams with "old" rosters will for push for that

I mentioned the possibly new TV deal on the Horizon awhile back so I was not overly concerned with the new contracts coming up.

The RingerThe Eight Big Questions Looming Over NBA Training Camps
How many more 2018 draftees will get contract extensions?
Kevin Huerter, Hawks
Fresh off a surprise trip to the Eastern Conference finals, Atlanta backed up the Brinks truck with extensions for Trae Young (a five-year max that could reach $207 million), John Collins (five years, $125 million), and Clint Capela (two years, $46 million). Next in line is Huerter, who hasn’t quite lived up to the admittedly lofty billing of being the Klay Thompson to Young’s Stephen Curry in Travis Schlenk’s “Warriors East” roster construction, but who’s been a rock-solid off-guard who can handle the ball, create his own shot, drain pull-up 2s (51.6 percent last season) and catch-and-shoot 3s (39.3 percent for his career), and hold his own defensively.
He can also punish mismatches, as he showed repeatedly in Game 7 of the second round against Philly, when he tortured Seth Curry on his way to a game-high 27 points to help the Hawks knock off the top-seeded Sixers:Just about every team in the league could use a player like Huerter in its wing rotation. At issue, though, is how much the Hawks themselves do, with Bogdan Bogdanovic in place and 2019 lottery picks De’Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish up for extensions of their own next summer. Will Atlanta just pay Huerter now—that Derrick White four-year, $73 million number looms large—to keep the good vibes rolling, or will they let Huerter roll into restricted free agency?Spoiler:

Based on this contract, Kevin should get less as Bridges has better individual stats and seems to also had a lot better impact in PHX than Huerter here.
I would even not compare to this kind of contract but negotiate with his agent, but would use Bogi's contract and show that he deserves to be paid, but less than Bogi

I'm curious, if we as fans had to choose between Hunter and Huerter -- which player would we keep?

Hunter without question. He has the potential to become a difference maker in a way I don’t believe Huerter can. I’d bet on Hunter becoming a 18-20ppg scorer with the ability to score in iso if he can simply stay on the court. We know what he can offer defensively.

For some unknown reason, many wish Huerter gone from Atlanta.
Front office likes him. Coaches like him. Many fans do not.
He's not flashy enough, I suppose or it's his red hair. You decide.

None of these two, and Hunter is not flashy either.
It's more that Hunter has already shown he can defend harder than Huerter, and even if it was hos best defense we saw this last season, he still stop more his opponent than Huerter (most of the opponent SGs were looking like All-Star when playing Vs ATL)
