2024 Draft Prospect Spotlight -- Reed Sheppard

I'm a big fan of Reed, but I was disappointed with his combine numbers. I was hoping he would come in alittle bigger and come in like an inch shorter than Booker, but anyway..... with that said, years ago i loved Booker and Herro coming out of UK, I like Reed more than Herro and almost the same as Booker.

He could the next Mark Price his ceiling could be MVP Steve Nash

But if we are moving on from Trae, I'd trade down and take a HR swing on this kid.

He just seems special:

Reed is an automatic talent in the current state of the NBA. A sniper of a shooter. While he possibly won't be a superstar you know what you're getting with him and that's possibly the best shooter in the draft.

Reed could end up being the best player of all-time and we'll be criticized for taking him #1. If Sarr doesn't workout we'll be criticized for taking him #1.

I want our front office to take who they believe will be a top rookie of the year candidate and year after year all-star.

Landry Fields will look like a genius by making the right choice and not by going off raw potential. We know what to expect from Reed. He's going to be one of the best three point shooters in the league.

The Kentucky players that will go in the lottery are intriguing to me because they shoot the 3 at 40% or greater.

Sheppard gave defenses headaches at Kentucky with absurdly consistent shot-making prowess, hitting 56 of his 109 catch-and-shoot attempts (per Synergy) and shooting 51.4% on the season from long range. His release is compact and consistent, with minimal dip and wasted motion, and his lower-body balance and shot-prep habits are excellent, giving him a high-level skill that should translate to NBA range.

Sheppard, ranked No. 4 in ESPN's Top 100, looks comfortable from all over the arc, and has a great baseline to keep improving, with room to hone his shot even more off the bounce if he can gain separation at a higher level. His ability to space the floor away from the ball simplifies his path into a role quite a bit, with his ceiling tied to how much he can expand his game as a handler. But there's a very legitimate shooting profile here that could also see him become more of an off-ball threat if needed. -- Woo
