I'm tempted to move Dyson to the number 2 spot. His defense has just been incredible. Zacc hasn't been a slouch on defense either.
They are both struggling shooting.
I'll leave my rankings as is for now.
Kobe and OO with injuries again.

19th out of 30?!?!?

NBA Power Rankings

Exciting young risers for all 30 teams

19. Atlanta Hawks

2024-25 record: 15-15
Previous ranking: 16

Young riser: G Dyson Daniels

Daniels, 21, has been by far the biggest revelation in the Hawks' group of newcomers. He is comfortably leading the league in steals (3.2) -- earning the nickname Great Barrier Thief, a nod to his Australian roots -- while also pouring in 13 points per game. His disruptiveness on the defensive end -- which has resulted in Atlanta forcing turnovers at one of the highest rates in the league -- has helped keep the team afloat. -- Herring

I think people forget he's still 21 years.

Kobe and OO with injuries again.

Time to re-rank!
1. JJ (23) - Incomplete: he has to stay on the court, but showed enough to maintain his #1 ranking
2. Dyson (21) - moved him to #2. His defense has been that special and his offense is improved. Also trending upwards from 3 pt land
3. Zacc (19) - doing amazing things for a Rookie: he knows where to be, relocate if needed, high IQ, great footwork in the paint, just need to get stronger. Finally glad to see his 3pt shooting normalize to pre-draft expectations.
4. OO - Final starting and doing some good things. I think the pairing had JJ been healthy would have been even better
5. Vit - was having a very good season, shooting great from 3, then injuries. Back last night and still has his 3pt stroke.
6. MoG - per Landry, he was not expected to play in NBA games this season just in the GL. JJ's injury forced the move. Mo is finally settling into a role, his defense on the perimeter and at the rim has been good, he covers a lot of ground. I'm hoping he has a Vit like improvement from 3 for the rest of the season like vit did last year. Last night was good start 2-4 from 3.
7. Barlow - I would like to see him get minutes in lieu of Capela
8. Kobe - Incomplete: injured

Looking at where we were almost 2 years ago, and comparing that to now, would you say that Landry has turned this team around and assembled a strong cast of young talent to believe in moving forward? I mean a few of us thought we had a pretty stocked cupboard of young talent then, but now, that cupboard looks even more exciting.

I would say that Landry has done what Travis never got an opportunity to do: hire an elite coach of his choosing.
That, combined with a more focused player development program has done wonders for the future of this franchise.

But, if we're being honest, most of the Hawks principal players were taken during the Schlenk era:

  • Trae Young
  • Onyeka Okongwu
  • Jalen Johnson
