The Rest Of January

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Thu Jan 10, 2008 6:10 pm

Home:

11th: Washington
13th: Chicago
15th Denver

Road Trip:

16th: @ Milwaukee
18th: @ Toronto

Home:

21st: Portland

Road Trip:

23rd: @ Denver
25th: @ Seattle
27th: @ Portland
29th: @ Phoenix
30th: @ LA Clippers

I hope we can pull out our next three home games because the rest of the month is brutal. We are currently 5-9 on the road, so I hope we turn it around, and end the month on a positive note.

This is a tough month. Lets hope that the win last night boosted the guys' confidence and we can play the rest of this homestand with some confidence. Washington and Chi will be tough and we really have to have our running game down pat against the Iversons. One of those "character defining" months.

Not only that, but Washington is the only Southeast team we play for the rest of the month, so I hope we capitalize on it and win at home. It would be nice to take over 2nd place and start our chase after Orlando.

That West Coast trip will go a long way in determining what our playoff chances are.

I think we'll finish this month strong. I can't wait for those Denver, Portland and Phoenix games.

Interesting stat I heard. The hawks are 10-2 when Joe Johnson puts up 24 or more points. If he shows up like he did against the Cavs last night, I think we have a good chance to win over half of these games no matter how brutal.

We have a chance without Joe because our young guys have started stepping up. When Joe actually shows up, he puts us over the top which is why we really are going to need him for this tough stretch coming up.

Yup, every team needs a scorer and Joe is that for us.

Brutal west coast trip, but if the team can rise to the occasion it will position them well for making the playoffs. I think the key is to hold serve in the next 2 games to get some momentum going. If we blow either of these then I think we'll find the pressure increasing exponentially.

I believe we are favs at home, but even if we lose one of those games, we could have good games against MIL, SEA and LAC on the road. 6 wins until the end of January would be nice.

Depends which team shows up. The one during the winning streak or the one during the losing streak. The winning team should be expected to at least win 6. The losing team will be lucky to win 3.

Win the home games(with maybe a loss to Denver or Portland)and beat the bad teams on the road(LAC,Seattle,Milwaukee)and that's a decent end to the month.

On paper Denver is a pretty brutal matchup for the Hawks. They don't have anyone to match up with Iverson at all. Carmelo presents matchup problems as well. Denver likes to pack the inside and make teams beat them with 3's. Their bigs are just as athletic as the Hawks. Though like like against the cavs they don't have anyone on paper that should be able to stick with Joe Johnson.

I'm not that worried about our schedule. Many of those teams are winnable games, but our team is capable of beating anyone on any night. We usually play very well against good teams, so it's pretty much if our team shows up ready to play or not IMO.

KMart and Nene are both rusty and very fould prone so PF and SG should be where we start our plan of attack. Hopefully Horford can also get his offense to a respectable level against the Nugs because it would really help if he could keep Camby busy in man D otherwise it'll be a long night. Iverson could absolutely destroy us, Melo' is a threat but this team is really succeptible to AI.

Denver plays at a fast pace and they are a slightly worse rebounding team than we are so hopefully we can beat them at their own game.
