So where Horford catches the ball 18 feet from the basket, with his defender 5 feet off him, and Horford just stands there doing nothing but looking for someone to pass to, it is the coaches fault?

How about Horford growing a pair and taking big slow stiffs off the dribble for once?

That's interesting because this is the exact argument I have used against JJ and you have defended him on.

I agree with Tontoz (twice in one day imagine that?) that Horford may not be a big scorer on this team. But he is CAPABLE of being a 13-17 PPG guy. I don't think he is cut out to be a big time scorer, but he definetely can average few more PPG than right now as he matures.

High post plays are at the top of the key or a step in.

And that is where he is catching the ball with his man 5 feet off him.

Bottom line it doesn't matter where he is catching the ball. If your man is 5 feet off you and the defenders are overplaying the passing lanes DO SOMETHING WITH THE BALL! Don't just sit there like a puss while the clock runs down.

But you are forgetting that he is a rookie. Rookies, to a fault have this deep fear of not running the play, because that is what you have to do at every level up until now(especially bigs).

He is deep enough that he would still have to rush jumper from that close to the basket. So he doesn't take the shot. I would like to see him take another step back, because he has that range, and take that jumper, hit or miss. But its not going to happen until he is given the green light to let it fly.

he is playing like he hasn't gotten that light.

It could also have something to do with whose under the rim to board.

If Al starts stepping out, we are way light inside.

I'd like to see his offensive production increase, but I'd like to see the increase come more from plays designed to get his shots closer to the rim.

I think he could be a good pick and roll big. Or run some back door clear outs and give him a decent chance with a one on one close to the rim. His scoring will increase.

Smoove already has a tendency to step out a bit far. His boards should be higher given his position and talent.

Do we really want Al stepping out too?

The problem is that his "high" post is so deep, it allows opposing bigs to guard him AND the rim at the same time. They get no advantage there. If he steps out another step or two, they will have to pick and choose and I think the offense would be able to run more freely.

Nonsense. If your man is 5 feet off you there is no excuse for standing around with the ball looking for someone to pass to while the clock winds down. Either shoot your jumper or drive.

When you drive the whole idea is to get to the rim. that is where Smith's points are coming from.

Are you telling me that Al is so lame he can't beat Bogut or Big Z off the dribble and get to the basket?
