NBA questions: Who won the first-half awards?

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Tue Jan 29, 2008 6:14 am

The first-half Rookie of the Year? Kevin Durant, Sonics. Everyone says he's going to be special but in his first season, all he's been is the best of a mediocre lot of rookies. Durant (19.4) is one of only two rookies averaging double figures. Grizzlies G Juan Carlos Navarro is the other (10.9). Durant also has a huge lead over Navarro, who is second in shot attempts, at 726-384.

Runners-up: Yi Jianlian, Al Horford, Navarro. Watch out for Yi in the second half.

Basketball isn't all about socring, neither should awards be.

The RealGM version of this has Horford taking the honors.

not to mention mike woodson gets an honorable mention for coach of the year............. hmmmmm.

Chil and Smoove are also mentioned for the 6th man and Defnsive player of the year awards.

Nice to get some recognition.

That was "Also considered" not honorable mention for Woodson. I hold out hope that he was considered and quickly dismissed, because if he did mean honorable mention then I suspect he hasn't been watching the games closely.

Durant should not win ROY..he will be a really good player down the road but right now he's just jacking up shots and playing bad defense. This is a rather weak field for ROY..based on what I have seen Conley(in what little I saw) and Horford have been the two rookies that have impressed me the most.

I think that Durant will win it just because voters don't generally look beyond the per game stat totals. 19 ppg will win him the award unless someone steps up huge in the second half. I think that Conley has been the most impressive to me when he has played but he is still under 20 games for the season. I was most surprised by how well Yi has played- I thought he was much further away from contributing. Horford has improved his offense a little recently- I have been very surprised by how little he has contributed on offense this season. Sean Williams has impressed me a lot overall- but he just doesn't seem like a ROY kind of guy. It would be really tough for me to vote on ROY right now.
