Skyhawk, I'm not sure when you started watching the NBA exactly or who you've watched but Tim Duncan has quite a few seasons of 3 and 3 (assist and TO). There was a small forward that played for Atlanta who had seasons of over 3 TOs with under 3 assists... Nique' I think his name is. Karl Malon, Charles Barkley, Moses Malone... ever heard of those guys? They were all more TO prone than Josh for good chunks of their careers and they played on teams where there was a primary ball handler. Look its OK for you to not like Josh for some personal reason but don't make it seem like he is the first PF in history to have 3 TOs a game.
As far as the shot selection, it isn't great but its gotten better. Remember he was brought onto the team as a gaurd-forward and filled out quite a bit. He has to reign back those tendencies but he has gotten better at it.
Again, our team needs offense. Joe is our primary offensive weapon but after him its a bit of a question mark. Is it better for Smith to try and force the action which may result in a basket, fts, or an assist but may also end up in a missed shot or a TO or is it better for Marv to sit and watch our team not be able to get a good shot? Judgement call.

Dude, I just said, i can live with 3 TOs. Big men have bad hands. D. Howard, Duncan, A. Jefferson, O'Neal, Yao probably turn it over 3 or more times a game. But guess what, they all shoot over 50%, they all are at least good rebounders, they all get doubled, which might explain some of the TOs. That's NOT j. Smith's case.
GO HAWKS.

Smith gets doubled inside which explains the assists in the half-court. If you don't see that you a) don't watch the Hawks and b) don't know the offensive set we run.
You named a bunch of centers and said that they are better rebounder (yes, those guys all play the majority of their minutes as centers) and stated a factual innaccuracy in that they all shoot over 50% and if you use TS% which accounts for Josh's high rate of FTs it levels the playing field quite a bit.
On another note, Why can Al Jefferson get as many blocked shots? Why can't Yao get as many steals? Some guys are better at certain things than others. Smith is a dynamic defender, OK rebounder, good passer, and decent scorer. He needs to improve on his efficiency but has shown he can do so, he needs to improve on his rebounding but he certainly isn't "bad" at it. He is good at other things.
He isn't the best PF in the league, but he is also a really young guy who does a lot of things well and has shown that he is willing to put in the effort to improve his game.

I'm a Suns fan and hope Hawks lose as many as possible this season for the pick's sake.
That being said, Hawks are just insanely athletically talented team, second maybe only to Portland. All you guys need is a Nash/Paul kind of PG and you could dominate in the East despite the youth.
As to Josh vs. Marvin, from today's game and games earlier it is clear that Marvin has some great fundamentals to be very efficient on the offensive end while Josh still forces it too much. Both will get better with more experience.

Those are centers, dude. Of course they shoot over 50% when you are 7 feet and can just dunk on people. And Jefferson doesn't shoot over 50% anyway (but he will in the future). Josh Smith is not a big man.
Josh Smith needs to correct his turnovers. But he has improved drastically in every aspect of the game and is 22 years old. We'll see what happens but I really have trouble seeing him not becoming a star. I know that is a major homer comment but he is 22 and already a very good player (not just good in flashes like most guys that age).
