If Dallas is really in on the Jason Kidd trade scene like it's been reported. They would probably deal Harris if they get Kidd and they would still have Terry playing some backup point and Barea. So this idea isn't too far fetched.

Plus with the Lakers making a big move and getting Gasol, this could force Dallas to try to get stronger.

I'm as big a Smith fan as there is but I wouldn't be averse to trading him if the right deal came along. Straight up for Devin Harris isn't the right deal in my opinion. Harris isn't as good of a player but is a couple of years older and has been in the league longer already. One of the biggest plusses of getting a good point guard for this team would be the ability to push the pace and score better in transition and our best transition weapon is Smith. Of course, the half-court improvement is important too but a lineup of Harris-Johnson-Marv-Horford-? isn't any better in the halfcourt offense than what we have currently (unless Horford shows he can be more effective than Smith on offense) and it is worse on defense (Harris is a great defender but the impact a great shotblocker makes is generally more significan than the impact a great man defender makes).

If it were deal of Chris Paul or Bynum or something like that, I'd be for it but I don't want to plug a hole with a comparitively inferior player just for the sake of plugging a hole. Smith is already a great player and has a lot of upside left to explore, you don't trade that unless you get the same value back.

Take into account that Dallas would only offer Jason a one year extension and go from there. After two years his time with Dallas would be over with and the keys would securely be given to Devin Harris once again. Devin is the only piece the team has to rely on at the point for the future. The risk is too high for Dallas to do a Josh for Devin swap.

Jason's defense is horrible. Devin on the other hand can contribute from both ends of the court and a part of me feels he holds down the team. He's really improving as he gains more experience and between Barea/Terry it's not worth risking.

Horford should be playing center in a league that is moving to smaller, more skilled bigs. Marion plays the kind of pf that Josh Smith is capable of. They need to decide who they want to keep between Marvin and Childress, and ship the other off with some combination of Shelden, and Pachulia for an established impact player, most likely a pg, like the breakout guard Beno Udrih, Jose Calderon, Kyle Lowry, and maybe some picks or expiring contracts.

I do think Horford can play a lot of center. But I'd like to see him get some minutes at the 4 at some point. But we can't do that because we have zero production out of our backup bigs.

Backup big, since Woody doesn't give Jones or Shelden minutes.

He doesn't give Shelden minutes because he isn't good if you as k me. Solo gets minutes when we can use him, but he is so skinny he can't matchup with a lot of guys. I don't see why he won't use Lo more, he has been at lesat somewhat productive.
