Anthony Parker?

Saw something on the trade board asking about his trade value, so I wondered what everyone around here thought.

Would there be interest in trying to work a deal for Anthony Parker from Toronto?

Parker isn't a young man (32), but he's shooting 48% from 3 pt line and is a pretty good perimeter defender. He's under contract next year for 4.55M.

I would still rather go for Artest, Miller, or Maggette, but Parker could be a fall back idea (although I am unsure if they are really shopping him or for what) if one of the others doesn't fall into place.

Parker is pretty underrated around the league, and as a result his value is more to the Raptors than it is to other teams. Which is precisely why he would be hard to acquire.

However, we'd gladly package him in a deal for a star, as he's an expiring next year.

Yeah, fall back altogether on this one. We need Parker in the worst way on this team, who would start at the 2 for us? Carlos Delfino is way too inconsistent to start. He's the most valuable wing guy we have for the foreseeable future.

However, if we were looking to deal him, I think a good start would be Josh Childress and maybe a lotto protected pick?

Chil and a lotto protected pick for a 32 year old SG to come off the bench? Parker would be an upgrade but not that big of an upgrade. It also seems like Chil is redundant on the Raptors with Moon there.

His numbers are this good because he's got Bosh that gets doubled every single night and gets him open. I think he's a nice player, but he's not a great shooter/scorer, and that's the only thing we need in a SG now. His age is also a factor. So, I do not see a reason we should consider him.

He'd be great here, he's got a great shot from deep which is the biggest problem out of our backup 2-guard, good defender, suprisingly athletic, and he's a great presence in the locker room too.

He'd definitely take more than we'd be willing to give up. Crazy how a guy like that had trouble making it in the league.

I've got to disagree with a couple of you. Age is not a factor in my eyes because this isn't a long term commitment and it isn't for a long term job. It is a role player to fill a certain role for a certain period of time. He doesn't have a long contract and as long as he doesn't break down or erode during that contract it shouldn't be a deterrent. Not every role on the roster needs to be filled with someone young with the potential of being a star some day.

I don't disagree with the rest of your assessments though. He isn't enough of upgrade to merit making a deal with Toronto.

Anthony Parker
Juan Dixon (expiring)
for
Josh Childress
Shelden Williams
Ty Lue (expiring)
Lo Wright (expiring)
works in trade checker in spite of the BYC hangups with TJ Ford.

This would only be considered if TJ Ford is deemed healthy to return and play, but it would give Toronto the flexibilty to resign Calderon without have too much money invested in the 1 position. Childress can be resigned for approx. the MLE and can slide into Parker's spot in the roster. Shelden gives them a banger.

For us, it would give us a dynamic PG for 3 more years and a long distance shooter for this year and next. Of course, I can't stress enough it requires a clean bill of health on Ford. I probably still don't do it because of fear of the franchise's bad luck combining with Ford's health history, but pose it more to get a feel for how much and how long should we invest in a PG.

So please consider the idea as if Ford is healthy and respond back is that too much of an investment in a PG or acceptable in concept.

From T.O perspective, that trade makes us significantly worse in the short term.

T.J Ford is still a core piece to the team, we haven't given up on him and we aren't trading away the guy for expiring contracts anytime soon. If anything, we wait until he's back 100% and has played a fair amount of game again. That way his trade value will rise again, he's a terrific player and a top 10 point when healthy.

In short, if we look to move T.J it won't be until the off-season at least and it definitely won't be for a package like that.

Anthony Parker is just not a guy we're looking to deal right now, unless we're upgrading at the 2, as well as getting younger, I don't see Parker going anywhere.

He is worth a lot more to Toronto than his actual value. As the Raps fans have said he is very valuable to them, especially since they rely so much on perimeter shooting. We would have to give up too much to get him.
