Marvin Williams grinds through the pain

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Sun Feb 3, 2008 4:00 am

Hawks forward Marvin Williams played through the pain in right leg Saturday night, knowing that what's at stake every night is far more important than a little discomfort. "I got kneed in the thigh against the Clippers," Williams said. "He got me pretty good, too. But I've got to play through this." Hawks coach Mike Woodson said he'll have to monitor Williams' minutes to make sure he does not aggravate the injury. He looked fine early Saturday, leading the Hawks with 14 points at halftime. He finished the game with a game-high 24 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two highlight-reel dunks. But after the game he was feeling the pain in his leg. "I don't know how Joe played on that thing [during the Western Conference road trip]," Williams said. "It's unbelievable that he was able to get up and down the floor with this injury, because I'm feeling it right now."

Marvin has some heart and his facial expressions show it on both ends of the court. He might not be the most skilled defender, but you can tell he's really worked on his game, and he's only going to continue to improve.

Marvin's reactions after dunking on someone is priceless. He has the same look on his face every time. He even had the look on his face after Chils dunked on Carter. I think if Joe is hurt then we need to let him rest after the all-star break in particular. When the Bulls used to go out west during their 1st title run they would let Bill Cartwright sit out some of the games. I really think we should consider giving Joe atleast a couple games off in games we can afford to lose(San Antonio,GSW,Utah). If he is hurt then Woody is doing a real diservice to him by conitinuing to play him all these minutes...

Joe needs to take some time off, it might be good for Marv to take the role of "first scorer" for a little.

Yeah but the Bulls had MJ and Pippen to make it easier. If Joe isn't hurt he has to be playing. If an injury is the reason he has been struggling then he should be sitting out.

That's what Marv is saying though, he doesn't know how Joe has been playing on his leg for so long.
