Last nationally televised game?

I was discussing this with some friends and none of us could remember. When was the last time the Hawks were on national TV (NBATV doesn't count)? Does anyone remember? Hopefully we can get some games on ESPN/TNT next year, if we make the playoffs we probably will.

The closest thing to the last Natl TV game we had was against the T'Wolves this year. That was when TNT showed the last secs of JJ hitting the game winning shot. Beyond that I don't remember. Perhaps the last playoff game we had.

Wasn't it against the Spurs @ home early in the season?

I saw that game on Cable here in Australia.

I think it was a game against philly some years back! Chris Crawford had a good game and the Hawks won. I think it was like 99

I'm pretty sure it was the Hawks and Kings. Hawks won. I remember because of the postgame interview where Jason Terry told the tnt guys "Show more hawks games."

Needless to say, that was still awhile ago.

I'm almost positive that the Hawks last game on national TV was in Jordan's last season with the Wizards. Shareef actually hit the game winning shot.

The Spurs game was our 1 appearance on NBA TV for the season.

I've tried to think of when this might had been:
I think I had a tube tv, gas was still around $1.00 a gallon, and I weighed a lot less.

I remember that Hawks-Kings game. I was studying in St. Louis at the time and was the only Hawks game I got to see that year.

I saw a lot more Hawks games when I lived in Canada because they were on Sportsnet... sad that its easier to catch a Hawks game in Montreal than Atlanta.

It's a shame that the TNT studio are less than 2 miles away from the arena, and they have shown us no love in ages. I don't think that TNT has been in the building since the 2003 All Star Game. I have band watching TNT games in my home because of that fact. I'd rather watch ESPN games. May sound crazy...but....TNT's roots are embeded in the Hawks organization. When there was no TNT, the Superstation WTBS Channel 17 use to carry only Hawks games. And TNT is under the umbrella of what WTBS started in the early 70's. I feel TNT owes our community a debt of gratitude for practically paving the way for the TNT you see today. It all started here....at the Omni/Philips Arena...years ago.

To be fair, TNT should, like they used to do in previous season, show every NBA at least once season. Cause I get tired of seeing the same teams like San Antonio, Dallas, Cleveland and Miami all the time.

But TNT is right down the street (almost walking distance)....and they should show us SOME love. Ever once in a while you see Kenny the Jet come to a game and Magic came when we were on that 5 game win streak and the first thing I thought was "Oh now you are coming." Sir Charles always plugs us in his commentary, but he has never come to a game. I would like to see Sir Charles to come to Philips and support this playoff mission we are on. I never see Ernie, and he should be ashame because the Hawks gave him his first TV gig. The only person that really shows up, besides the Jet is Craig Sager. He and the Jet may come to two or three games a season....if that.

I'm just saying....TNT should do more for the city of Atlanta than it has. It's been eight years TNT! Instead of lugging all that equipment around the country on a plane every week....just load up the van, and take a three minute trip down the street.

TNT is a national network that just happens to be headquartered here. Not a local channel like TBS once was (that's changed now too), so I don't have any problem with them not doing much local stuff.

On the other hand, I fully agree with you about giving a little love to each team. The diversity in the schedule sucks which is why I buy League Pass even though as a season ticket holder I'm not home enough to fully enjoy it. What really bugs me is the Thursday night schedule which normally has only 3 or 4 games on it (2 on TNT, 1 on NBA TV, 1 not broadcast) always seem to feature the same sets of teams in different combinations. For instance the Hawks are 1-0 (Minnesota at home) on Thursday and don't play another Thursday game this season.

The Hawks had a nationally televised preseason game on TNT vs. the Heat about 2 years ago. It was Shaq's first season with Miami so that's probably why it was nationally televised.

My point is TBS was the birthplace of your TNT, CNN's, etc. My gripe is that TNT has ignored it's roots. If you are from Atlanta, you'd definitely understand and feel where I am coming from.

You never forget where you come from. Although TNT is now a national network entity, it should reach out and pay hommage to the team that was instrumental in the success they are having now.

I guess you could always go downtown and protest or simply write them a letter. However, if you do go there you need to know the security is very tight at Turner.

Business is Business. The way Atlanta plays at time we could be the joke of the night if TNT put us on.

Not native, but have been here 15 years. I understand your point with respect to TBS, but TNT was always a national cable network just like CNN. Just because they are created from the same company doesn't mean to me they have roots in TBS. The Cartoon Network was also created here but I don't feel like it sprang from TBS. The company itself has roots in TBS, but those networks are separate entities. If they are going to be National or International networks they shouldn't be ashamed of being in Atlanta (or any other city), but they shouldn't have an extra focus on the local team or presence in the community. They need a certain neutrality. I feel the same was about Fox, ESPN, NBC, etc. Local affiliates and regional channels should have that greater local presence, but national networks should be site neutral.

TNT want to make money. By showing us that will not happen. I think if we make the playoffs we will get a game or two next season.
