Lowry expendable with Grizzlies, should draw trade interest

Kyle Lowry

With the Memphis Grizzlies getting rookie point guard Javaris Crittenton from the Los Angeles Lakers in the Pau Gasol deal, Kyle Lowry should draw a lot of interest.

Lowry is a true point guard the Chicago Bulls liked a lot in the 2006 draft, but the Grizzlies consider Mike Conley their point of the future.

I would love to get Lowry in our back court. I think he and Acie could hold it down for years. Could we land him with expirings and a future lottery protected?

I'd propose the following

Lue/Lo/2009 second

for

Lowry

or

Shelden/Lue/Lo/2010 protected/2009 second

for

Lowry/Miller

Based on their recent moves, the Grizz have to be actively seeking a partner for Critt or Lowry.

I see no reason why the Grizz would have to trade Lowry. They'll likely have a three-man rotation with Lowry-Critt-Conley.

The odd man out is Mike Miller.

The reason the Grizzlies want to trade Lowry is because their other two point guards are actual point guards. Conley is just flat out better(and a true pg) and Critt has more pg insticnts(he's raw though) and the size to play 2 guard which you can't get from Lowry or Conley. You can't keep all three unless you want to ruin one of them's trade value. The Hawks made the mistake of keeping Zaza AND Shelden after drafting Horford and now neither have any trade value(I expected Shelden to drop off but not Zaza). Lowry has played 40 minutes a game since Conley got hurt and has 4 assist a game. That's 13 assist and 10 turnovers game from a starting point guard playing HUGE minutes. Conley has a 5 to 1 assist to turnover ratio when he starts. The only reason Lowry plays point guard is because he's short.

That would make a lot of sense for us if the Grizz would be OK with it. If Shel is just gonna be sitting on the bench, he has absolutely no basketball value to us outside of an insurance policy. Another question is, would BK be able to admit Shelden can be traded for a guy that went much later in the same draft.
