Additional Trade Unlikeliness

Post#1 » by evildallas » Tue Feb 19, 2008 8:08 pm

I stumbled across this in the HoopsHype rumor section:

The San Antonio Spurs are most interested in getting Tony Parker back in the lineup and seeing what their roster looks like at full strength. But with a couple of expiring contracts of their own, most notably that of Brent Barry, they've also actively looked for additional help. The Spurs were in the Kyle Korver talks with Philadelphia, but didn

The quickly rebuffed part leads me to believe that BK isn't even listening to offers for Childress. Theoretically, he was the biggest trade chip we had left, but it would be risky to use that chip as he plays a role in our success...

If it's true, thanks to BK. If Childress has a role in a contender, he has a role here in a team try to build a futur contender.

There is nothing that San Antonio could even possibly think about giving up that would be a fair trade for Chill.

I personally feel that Elson, Udoka, and 2008 1st rounder would be fair if we figure to lose JChill in the offseason for nothing.

I actually think Udoka is a better defender and can shoot the 3 although his numbers are down right now. Elson provides some size, but I think he's kind of soft. The 2008 1st rounder would give us a chance to draft a Chill replacement or of backup PF to contribute at rookie scale low dollars for a few years.

They're hesitant to trade their pick right now which is understandable. Where hesitant to move Childress at all even if we lose him for nothing because he could hurt our playoff chances, which is also understandable.

Again, note that I say this is a fair deal. Not that it helps us in the short-term.

^^No thanks i dont see us getting fair value for chill and the way things been going for the spurs chill would rather be here for the long.

chill for david lee or channing frye would have a nice ring to it to me.

Tough situation, we got our point guard and shooter now so our need is backup big man and its hard to think of one that would have a greater impact on our team than Chil... Foster maybe?

Do West and Richardson make Chil more expendable or are they just insurance?

Insurance, but I still think that Chill is expendable long term, just not right now. This team has to pull together and make the playoffs this year without any more trades. As I tried to point out, even we tried to make a trade it would be counterproductive to a run now.

In the off season I think you'll see a trade. It might be a S&T to move Childress or it could be dumping the expiring contract of Zaza (he'll be an expiring next season) for a better contributor who has a contract that his current team doesn't like. Leaving the team as currently constructed would not march it forward.

I don't mind hte idea of dealing JJ. But please no on VC. He's selfish, has a bad work ethic, and is a terrible leader. Not someone we need around our young guys.
