Well my thought has been that there is no way this team reaches its max potential until Marv can either hit that midrange with amazing consistency or he can hit the 3.

If his ceiling is RJ, is it worth it for us to pay him RJ money when we have other players that are more dynamic (namely Al and Josh) that are going to warrant similar dough.

Personally if Marvin doesn't show he can knock down the 3 consistently I want us to move him. I'd give him a two year window to accomplish this, keep it silent if I was the GM, but stay on him to attempt several hundred a day.

I know Denver would never do it, but if we could package Marvin and Zaza to get Camby, that would be EXACTLY what out team needs.

On the other hand, I wonder if Hawks were talking to the Grizzlies at all about Gasol. I thought he'd be a great player to get for a package around Marvin, probably it didn't go anywhere b/c we would have to give Marvin and all the expirings...which would have left us with no assets to pursue a PG (ie Bibby).

I think our 2/3/4 roster is solid with JJ, Childress, Smith, and Horford (hopefully we resign those middle two). I know Marv will probably blow up somewhere but I don't think he's going to be a franchise player to the level of a DWade, Lebron, Kobe...I don't know what the best player comparison for him is, but I know he won't be that elite level guy, maybe a 20-8-2 guy getting the max but best served as a number two (AT BEST). That's why I'd be comfortable letting him go if we can get the piece we're missing...unfortunately that piece is a defensive big man.

What would people think about a Marvin for Bogut trade (23 y/o 7 footer avg 14-9 and almost 2bpg)? How's his D, I haven't watched him play at all this season.

What about Kaman?

Dalembert would probably be great as well. Those are the other names that popped in my head after Camby.

I think Bogut might be attainable, but I doubt Dalembert will be with that salary. I like this lineup Bogut/Horford/Smith/JJ/Bibby, Chill and Law off the bench. Of course Horf and Bogut could split time at 5 with Smith playing a lot of 4...but I think that's a sound team in the East and with experience could be a finals type team if Smith and Horf continue to develop.

I also wanted to point out the decision of Childress vs Marvin is like apples vs. oranges. Childress I think can be had for <$7/yr. When he's a FA, someone will offer Marvin AT LEAST $10/yr (plus more teams will have cap space potentially then too). Signing Marvin to that sort of money would mean we'd have Marvin, JJ, and Smith as the core, with Horford due for an extension...I don't think it's championship level, but I could be wrong. The better big money core, to me, is JJ, Smith, and Horford if we can get something complementary for Marvin that would be ideal.

Ultimately, I think if we decide to keep Marvin for the big bucks, there will need to be a decision made on JJ...that's how I see it anyway.

Not really. Camby is a weak-side shotblocker, and duplicates what Smith offers. He's not really any better at man D than Horford will be next year.

Someone like Kaman would be a better fit.

Fair enough, but it would be sick to lead the league in blocks with that frontline. I wonder if Kaman is attainable, I think he's making like $10M/yr...but so it every other person over 6'10'' that can get a couple of boards...

By the way, I have a gut feeling the Clippers are about to explode and Brand or Kaman are going to be given away for garbage sometime in the next year...ala Gasol/Vince Carter style. I don't think Sterling is going to pay money much longer...I just feel a firesale coming...

You can't get good young centers like Kaman unless you want to gut the team. You either have to draft one, or take a risk and get an overpaid one on a down year(like Chandler). I think Haywood & Kaman were probably available for cheap last summer but no one was willing to take a risk. Dalembert(although having a better year), Nene, and Curry(although he just sucks now)are three talented young big men who wouldn't take that much to get. I also wouldn't mind getting Diop or Kwame in free agency depending on the price.
