Hawks close to clinching playoff berth

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Tue Apr 8, 2008 4:32 pm

The Hawks are days away from clinching their first playoff spot in nine years.

If the Hawks win tonight in Indiana, the Pacers would be eliminated. That would leave only New Jersey with a chance to catch the Hawks for the final spot in the Eastern Conference. Defeating the Pacers would give the Hawks 37 wins, five more than the Nets, who have five games remaining and hold the tie-breaker over the Hawks.

The Hawks would clinch the final playoff spot should the Nets lose at Cleveland on Wednesday.

If the Nets beat the Cavaliers, the Hawks could clinch by beating New York on Friday, Boston on Saturday, Orlando on Tuesday or Miami on Wednesday. They would also clinch in the Nets lost to Toronto on Friday, Milwaukee on Saturday, Charlotte on Tuesday or Boston on Wednesday.

If the Hawks don't win tonight, than any combination of two Hawks wins or two Nets losses over the final week of the season would end the NBA's longest playoff drought.
