I love Josh Smith, but he didn't get his money worth on fouls tonight. Those were silly mistakes that gave the refs easy chances to blow the whistle on him. He's got to learn what he can and can't do against vets and stars to spend more time on the court. I felt when he exited with 4 fouls in the 3rd that it really hurt our momentum and cut a run short. His presence on the floor wouldn't have stopped Sam Cassell from eating us alive in the 4th, but I would have loved to see if things could have been different if the Hawks had managed to grow the lead passed 4 points.
All in all good game by the Hawks even though they lost (Thank you Charlotte for giving us room to lose a hard fought game). They showed spine and Boston didn't deliver the message they wanted. They delivered a different message of our bench can beat your starters if they want to. We still need to get a win (or another Indy loss), but with 4 chances at clinching I like our odds.

one only lost in the season where i don't feel bad.
it was great to see Josh and Horford play with such heart out their.
Bibby and Joe just couldn't hit a open 3 to save their life in the 4th. but even with KG, Ray, and Paul, Hawks played great out their.
but this also shows why i think the Hawks should have done a Shelden/Cassel trade early in the season.

.... look we all know that Bibby is pretty much a one trick horse.... he hits open 3s (especially in the 4th). if he doesn't do that, then he really brings nothing to the table.
if Bibby just hits two open threes he had when the score was 84-80.... Hawks would have probably won easy. but it was just another bad shooting night for Mike. as long as he gets out of this funk. Hawks should be able to compete with Boston in a series.

How did it show it isn't going to be 4 blowouts again? You really think this is how the Celts will play in the playoffs?

i don't know.... but it is not like the big 3 are playoff studs. we know what Duncan, Billups, Wade, Kobe, and Lebron can do in the playoffs, KG, Paul, and Ray have all had their problems in the playoffs. so nothing is for certain.

But they aren't T-Mac or Pau Gasol-like either. They've all gotten to the conference finals. Plus they are on a team that is much better then their former teams.
See you next weekend guys.

That game was really fun last night even though we lost. Good crowd, good game. It was almost worth the loss to see Sam Cassell do his testicle dance. I hope that showed on tv - it was hysterical.
Horford and Josh Smith were a LOAD on both ends of the floor, I think their youth and athleticism are going to give the C's fits in the playoffs.

You think the Celtics were out there just going through the motions? Don't be such a homer.
If they weren't "going through the motions", they wouldn't have played as much as your starters. We also didn't have Leon Powe, who's been playing like a beast lately and would have helped out tremendously with Horford and on the glass.
I like your young guys, but let's keep things in perspective, shall we?

All we're saying is we don't think the series is going to be four blowouts. We were able to hang with your starters for three quarters. Obviously it won't be as easy in the playoffs, and I would fully expect to the C's win that game in the end anyway come playoff time, but I think last night showed that it could at least be an entertaining four or five games.
This board has definetely kept things in perspective. None of us really expect to win the series, we just want to give a good account of our team like we did last night.

Nobody else really played well. Fortunately we got bailed out by the Bobcats.
I agree with you about Smith being a moron sometimes, but he was definitely our most effective player last night.
He hurt the team a bit by doing some stupid stuff and taking himself out of the game for crunch time. He's the only Hawks player with a postive +/- and he's at +11 compared to Joe and Al's -17. Not that they didn't play well, just weren't as effective as Josh.
I know what you are saying though, if he limits his mistakes and stays in the game then who knows how that thing turns out.
I will say that his bball IQ has improved over the course of the year. I'm fairly confident that a coach with a little bit of experience will help him quite a bit in that department, don't forget he's been under the Woody/BK regime since highschool basketball.
We really need some depth next season. Our bench is terrible. I want to switch out Marv and Chil but I've made that known.
The Celtics are really good. We know that. I'm excited to watch the playoff series, I want to see how hard Smith and Al go in the postseason. I also want to see if Marv and Chil grow a heart.
