Mike Woodson Q&A

Post#1 » by Sultanofatl » Fri Apr 18, 2008 4:05 pm

Q. Do you envision any way in which you and [Hawks general manager] Billy Knight both return in the same capacity next season and lead this franchise and team, respectively?

A. That's hard to say. It's hard to say. I don't know. But I will say this, as soon as we win the title this year, we're going to sit down and discuss it. I promise you that.

Did I read Woody correctly??

He said we will win the title??

In my Jim Mora Sr. voice: Title? Title? Title?

Wow....he must know something that we and the NBA doesn't.

But that would be the ONLY way he would secure his job....win a title!

Woody is not a good fit for this team, but I have to give him credit. He was put in an awful situation with a terrible GM, dysfunctional ownership, young players who at first wouldn't listen to him, and an organization with a losing culture that still hasn't completely gone away. Yet he has handled himself with dignity and class every step of the way.

If I was him I'd be in a back room going after BK every day for trying to fire me behind my back multiple times. But he has somehow found a way to put all the distractions aside and do his job.

Unfortunately he's just not a good HC. But who knows? Maybe he can learn from this situation and make a successful return as an HC later in his career, I wish the man well.

What else is he supposed to say? "Once we win the title..." sounds a whole lot better than "after we get swept by the celtics..."

I agree. As much as I hate Woodson, that was a ballsy, positive statement.

Maybe too positive.

Or I guess we can interpret from the answer that the only way they talk about returning is if they win the title.

A definite reach, but one I hope that will get his players believing. Personally, beating Boston is the least of our worries. You have to go thru Detroit, and to me, that is a tougher battle all the way around. We don't match up well with them at all.
I hope Smoove and the guys don't celebrate too much should they shock the world and give us a 'Golden State Moment'.

From his standpoint I would expect him to say that. It doesn't bother me, because he needs to be confident he and his players can get the job done. Do you prefer him to say "After our first round exit"?

I didn't know "after we win the title" or "after our 1st round exit" are the only things that you can say. He could have just said "after the playoffs are over" you know? I don't have a problem with him saying it(like the confidence)but it isn't like he was forced to say something extreme.

Why not be confident? Why not tell your players that you think they are going to win against the celtics and against anyone who comes after that. Seriously why not talk like you expect to win it all?

I said I liked him saying that. I'm just saying there's a big difference in saying "after we win it all" and "after our 1st round exit". The poltically incorrect(boring) thing to say would be "after the playoffs". I'd prefer the way the Hawks are talking now. I hate when teams suck up to the other team and kiss their ass(Doc Rivers ALWAYS does this no matter what team they face) in the media. The players needs to know they should win the series and Boston should know that the Hawks expect to win the series.

And not to get to off topic but these Boston fans are really annoying. It's amazing how insecure they are. I simply posted a joke paragraph about the Hawks/Celtics last game was similar to the Pats/Giants game in week 17 which is why the Hawks would upset them in the playoffs. It was obvious I was kidding(even said so after the post) but I was still reminded by a Celtic fan how the NBA is a 7 game series and not a 1 game playoff so it's not possible(no **** I was joking but it shows their insecurity). Then I read a serious post about the Hawks virtually having NO chance to win any of the games(wtf?). To top it off there is that ridiculous thread ripping Josh Smith for THINKING the Hawks can win the series. I've never seen more insecure fans than reading their board these last couple of days. My excitement level for the playoffs dropped after I realized how bad our coach was the last 2 games but I seriously hope the Hawks win one, or atleast give them a scare in Boston just to bring their fan base back down to Earth.

"None of these players can ever say that I didn't give them a chance to play and I wasn't fair. They might not have gotten as much playing time as they wanted to get. But they can't say I wasn't fair."

That's the biggest BS statement hear all year. Fair? Once your fired why don't we as players like Mario, Richardson, Salim, Law, and Solo if you were being "fair?"
