Well if you look at his splits, he did play a lot better at the beginning of the season... but even then he looked lost and had trouble playing in a rythm.
I can't blame Woody for Acie playing hesitantly. I can, and will, speculate that Woody didn't help his development after the injury but I'm not going to say that Acie would have been a top notch player either way. He wasn't as ready as people thought he was going to be.

why is everything about stats. He played very well at first when he got the starting job.HE got hurt in like th 6th game.he missed a bunch of games.Woodson didn't give him HIS starting job back so he had to run with sorry backups that coudn't finish,Which means no assists numbers, they fumbled his passes away which is credited under his name as a turnover. They did nothing but stand around so he couldn't drive or whatever to score much himself. The first game I pointed out was when he started because AJ was suspended.Everyone played well and he was in rhythem and he went 3-4 and 1-1 from 3 with 5 assists.Woody pulled him and played Lue the 4th quarter and OT and we lost. There was hella games between when he had inconsistent minutes playing with bench players that couldn't score or rebound or anything,so duh the offense will stall.and if he made a mistake,Woody was quick to pull him.so no playing through mistakes and getting better like other players that can do what ever they want and stay in the game.JoshB914 wrote:CWell there is simply no way that Acie could have performed the way you said and have those stats. His averages would be much higher.
the 2nd game I pointed out was with Childress out so he had to play more and Woody couldn't pull him and he played with starters more.He took and made his shots with confidence, but Woody was confident with him because he pulled him in the 4th when it was crunch time and AJ lost the game. One of the worst coaching decision's i've ever seen. After we got Bibby,Bibby got hurt so Acie had to play alot and he got 16.HE came out the next game and had decent playing time with Bibby hobbling around and Shelden hurt him.
After that injury his minutes went down even more than after the first injury. His leesh was even shorter so he got even more timid. and scared to make a mistake. When u think to much playing anything,u won't play your best.Salim is used to never playing so he's gonna throw up shots with no hesitation every chance he gets.Acie is a PG unlike Salim and won't just throw up shots.
why am I even arguing,it's obvious u haven't watched this season because everything goes back to his player page or some 82 games BS.U prolly don't even know what games i'm talking about because u never saw them. The offense sure didn't stall with him at the beginning of the season. It ran best with him out there.
It don't matter what happened,if u think he has no bright future after just one season then u know nothing about the NBA.

I'm not trying to make it about stats, but if he had played well consistently then he would have better numbers. You can't play well and average 4 and 2 on 40% shooting.
There is an argument that Woody held IV back this season, but I don't get the argument that he actually did a good job and Woody just wouldn't play him.
And I'm not sitting here saying he's been a bust. This was only his rookie season and hopefully he will get better.

ok i'm fine with that.I don't think he had consistent minutes with consistent players to show up big on the stat sheet though, there are multiple times if u look at his game splits for the season where he had a good game to only have like 5 minutes the next.Rookies won't be as consistent as u like but the coach should atleast show confidence in him.At the beginning he played fine for a rookie PG,but Lue always played more and Law never played in the 4th.Does that make sense? Why I think his rookie year as a whole wasn't as good as it coulb be is 5 reasons:JoshB914 wrote:I'm not trying to make it about stats, but if he had played well consistently then he would have better numbers. now that I see where you're coming from I respect your opinion a lot more.I don't like the guys that just say he just not that good,or he was from the big 12 etc. That's dumb.Alot of these posters couldn't name the college alot of the great players in the NBA come from.JoshB914 wrote:It definetely makes sense. I'm just of the school of thought that the vast majority of production is a product of the player himself. Hopefully Acie will come back strong next year.

See I disagree.
Look at a guy like Turkglu in Orlando or Mike Dunlevey in Indiana, or even Boris Diaw. Its no coincidence that almost every MIP comes on a team with a differenct coach. Its because how coaches utilize players will directly determine their production.
An even better example, look at Rasho Nesteroivics last two months for Toronto. Mitchell started featuring him on the post and he put up great numbers.
Simply put, if Acie had the freedom that Bibby, Lue or AJ had at the point guard this season, we would have a extremely solid back up point at worse right now. He obviously can get by anyone he wants anytime he wants off the dribble.
After the ankle got cpompletely healed, he was finishing better at the basket. Problem is, he got afraid to take jumpers because he was pulled if he was. He was afraid to make the more risky passes that he CAN make because he would get pulled if he turned it over. HOwever Bibby would have a game and go 0-8 with 6 turnovers and still be on the court. Same for AJ and Lue.
The point guard is like the QB in football, and if you tell a QB you make a mistake you are benched, you are going to see some pisspoor QB play.
I would say that Woodson ranks number one on the list for me, but Acie is also accountable. He should have continued to play his game regardless, seeing as both approaches would lead to him being benched.

Turkoglu played for a great coach and team in Adelman. These guys are pro's, if they are letting others control how good they become then they need to look at themselves. Guys will flourish in various systems, ciites, etc. But players get paid much more than coaches for a reason, they are the most reponsible for their own play.
If Acie had the freedom of Bibby I agree we woud be better. We also would have won about 30 games. That is why rookies play sporadic minutes (don't know why everyone acts like IV's lack of minutes is so unique), they often aren't at the level where they can help a team more than hurt it.

It's so unique because the guys in fronty of him before Bibby were 10 year vets but still far inferior and we weren't winning either way.Games he played with starters we had the lead,Woody puts in those vets and we lost.Him being a rookie shouldn't have nothing to do with him being pulled that way he has.Look at Marvin, although i'm not abig fan of his he has it similar. No matter how he starts the game Woody puts in Childress at the 6 minute mark.Multiple games Marvin started on fire and he gets pulled.Smmove or Horford would get hot and in a second here comes zaza.He never subs in the flow of the game.Other Coaches may have timed subs too for the most part but they won't pull a player with the hot hand.Woody does that ALL THE TIME.Even Salim came in at the end of the regular season during one game he hit like 3 straight shots and BOOM here comes Bibby.U get 2 fouls and you're out till the 3rd quarter.JoshB914 wrote:Turkoglu played for a great coach and team in Adelman. When Lue was here he played NO defense but he hit some shots every now and then. He'd play forever and not get pulled even though he dribbled out the shot clock and killed any offensive ball movement. On the other hand Jeremy Richardson isn't a great defender (but tries) but he can hit shots,we haven't seen him in months.

They were at different times.WHat's weird about it was besides that portland game those games were right before he was injured. He was hurt in like the 2nd quarter of a game he had 7 assists and no turnovers.I can't wait till summer league.I can see him tearing it up now.Him and Horford(if he plays,I hope he does).JoshB914 wrote:Woody just has a very strict substitution pattern in the first half. I disagree with some of it but lot's of coaches have it.
I just don't remember Law playing as well as you say. Clearly we just have a different opinion on him.
