I'm perfectly fine with Marvin attempting more shots. I even mentioned that before the all-star break and having Josh Smith attempt less shots. Marvin's lack of 3 point range continues to bother me. I've brought this up several times this year, and it's not like there is sign that he's improved on it.

LHughes/JSmooth, I do agree with you that many Hawk fans continue to hate on Marvin due to Billy passing on Chris Paul. I wanted Deron Williams, but that still doesn't mean I get upset when I think about Marvin, because while I like him, I just wish he would bring all the aspects of the game that we need out of him as our small forward.

^ Yeap. I don't think no one HATES him, because he is not a person to hate on. But I don't think our coach runs plays for him, thinking that Joe and now also Bibby, should win every game for us.

[quote="mrhonline"]Marvin Williams, for all his detractors on this site, plays better post defense than Josh Smith. Marvin Williams, for all his detractors on this site, plays better perimeter defense than Josh Smith.f.[/qyuote]

I've lost track of how many opposing coaches and players have admitted to designing their offensive game plans around Josh Smith and his shot-blocking. He's one of the most feared defenders in the league. Lend me some of good sh*t you've been smoking...

^ I think he just meant perimeter defense, but then again, who does play perimeter defense on this team? Every team goes to the hole or shoots right over us all the time.

We need to run more plays for Marvin because it will free up more room for Joe and Bibby but that will never happen with Woody as the coach.

How can anyone blame Marvin and Smoove? Our stars in Bibby and JJ were awful too...

It's very east to figure out what is going on. It's not coaching (although Woody sucks), it's not BK, it's not Marvin/Smoove, IT'S THE CELTICS. That defense shuts down EVERYONE.

Just to be clear - that loss was NOT Marvin's fault. I hope nobody thought that's what I was implying. The Celtics simply crushed us because they are a much more talented team than us.

All I was stating is that Marvin was (by far) the worst player on the floor for much of that game. I really hope we're able to package him with Bibby's expiring contract next year for a young talented true center or point guard. And I hope Billy Knight simply jumps off a bridge.

I would gladly give them up for depth or picks.Acie needs to run this team next year.Acie and Horford will be the next great tandem of PG and bigman. Then we already have Joe and Smoove,we just need a decent SF.

They design around his help-side defense - the same thing that teams do for all great shotblockers. His actual man D, both in the post and on the perimeter, leaves MUCH to be desired.

Unfortunately, it's MAN DEFENSE that actually wins games. Teams whose post defense consists of blocking a lot of shots are rarely successful in the playoffs.

Who on our team is a better man defender than Smith? No one on the perimeter or in the post.

On top of that, its not MAN DEFENSE that wins games. Its defense in general, Smith is literally the least of our worries in man defense and he is an elite help defender. Duncan is a great man defender but his true value on that end is as a shotblocker/disrupter. Same thing with Ben Wallace, same thing with Hakeem, same thing with Robinson, same thing with Kareem... same thing with Russell.

mrh...that was seriously the dumbest complaint of Josh Smith that I've ever heard. Josh Smith is the Hawks best and most important defensive player by a wide margin.

If you think man defense is more important than help defense, than I don't know what to say. They are at LEAST equally important.

Offensive players in the NBA are so good and so skilled, quick and athletic, that players CONSTANTLY get beat off the dribble. Teams that can help the best have the best defenses. Just watch KG or Duncan, why do you think their teams are so great on defense? Just watch what happens when people drive the lane.

Everybody should just calm down. We got Marvin, Smith, and Horford. Be happy with that. Many teams wish they had that. Our problem is the bench, and PG. NOT MARVIN.
