Solomon Jones contract?

Post#1 » by Master8492 » Thu May 1, 2008 2:56 pm

Anyone know when he'll be a FA? I hope the new coach can give this guy a chance to play... he can be just as effective as Powe and Perkins in this series if given the chance.

He's got one year left. Next year is do or die for him regarding his NBA career.

Completely disagree. He can have a crappy year next year and still will be picked up because he is RIDICULOUSLY long, has shotblocking timing, and can finish above the rim.

he will be sticking around. Hell, if Steven Hunter can stick around, he will.

What kind of $$$ and years do you see him demanding if he has a year similar to this one?

If he languishes another year without any PT, I think he might be able to get camp invites in the future, but his career would be in essence over. If he was a 7 footer he could hold on for years, but at 6'9" with long arms there is a little less patience and a little more competition.

The deal with Steven Hunter is he played just enough in that 1 year deal after his rookie deal expired to get that 5 year guaranteed deal (from Billy King). If it wasn't for that he would be gone already. As is, he still has 2 years of guarantee left. I guess that Solomon could conceivable emulate that model.

He will be making Royal Ivey money. he will be right at a minimum salary player. might even push it to a mill a year. he won't get PAID, but he will be in the NBA for a long time.

Solomon is 6'10 with shoes... 9'1'' standing reach with a 39'' vertical jump. His help defense is 2nd behind Josh on this team and with that measurement... he can help out in the defensive rebounding department.

Thats a hypothetical, unfortunately Woody hasn't let Solo prove anything in a game-time situation but for whatever reason we never sent him to the D-League to work on his game a little.

^Well it's either between him and Horford, but I don't think Horford can defend the rim better than Solomon. Last night, where Pierce was spinning around Josh and got an and1 against Horford... Solomon would've block that weak ass attempt. Another instance in last night game where Pierce was spinning again... this time against Childress and lay it up in Zaza's face... Solomon would sent that thing back a few feet.

Yeah, hard to tell. I wish I knew more about his rebounding abilites and I wish he had put on a few lbs... Right now I don't feel comfortable with our defense when Smith isn't in the game.

Solo is a good shot blocker and that is the only thing he is good at right now. But a big reason for that is he hasn't had the chance to develop his skills in a game setting. He should have been given a chance to play or sent down to the D-league. Woody completely dropped the ball on him.

he gets rebounds based purely on his hustle and length. He is also a damn good shotblocker, but doesn't offer you much on offense outside of the occasional putback. But his shotblocking, especially since he knows he is going to get only a few minutes and goes after EVERYTHING, is pretty good.

I don't see how he is any worse that Zaza honestly. At least he can block shots. Thing is, he gets lost on D alot, but has the skill to make up sometimes. Zaza gets lost and watches people score.

I don't dislike Solomon. I would love to believe he is a defensive force, but he hasn't gotten to play and when he did in preseason fouls took him out quickly. I don't blame Solomon for this, I blame the coaching staff and front office. Early in the season he could have spend some time in the D-League working on game situations, but they left him here so that Woodson could use his random rotation of which bench big plays tonight. I also don't think he's had particularly good big man coaches during his time here. It's an old tune, but Clifford Ray has worked with Dwight Howard, Al Jefferson, Kendrick Perkins, Leon Powe, and Glenn Davis. Each improved under his tutelage in my opinion, while our bigs seem stuck in neutral or reverse (except for Al Horford who's been solid since day 1, but who knows what he could be like with a little coaching).

While I sit corrected about his height. 6'10 is still not 7 feet, so I stand by my assessment that the guaranteed contracts won't be there. He'll have to make rosters off of invites down the road.
