confusing I know, seeing as we have no GM and all???
Just a rumour? Seems likely timing though. I wonder how he'll fit in with the team next year.
Beacause he's an aussie we might finally get some Hawks exposure down under.

Does anyone know about his defense?
Because as we all know, if he doesn't do well on the defensive end, he won't get on the court under Woody.
And is he going to be satisfied coming off the bench when he gets here?
I see this as a very neutral move at this point until he can prove his worth. He has been talked about so much and it would be a shame if he was just another tall guy who doesn't defend at all.

He is better at every aspect of the game over Zaza. He isn't a great defender, but he is better than Zaza. He is a damn nice scorer, and he isn't a great rebounder, but his numbers are inflated by blowing easy layups like Zaza.
If Zaza can get on the court, there is no reason that DA shouldn't take his minutes because he is simply better.

He is not a great defender, does not block many shots but works on the paint, rebounds more or less well, scores inside and outside, shoots 3pt shoot.
I think he can help the team as provides something new is definately an upgrade over Solo and even Zaza I think but the greatest thing is that he provides alternatives.

From what I saw watching the Euroleague Final Four, Andersen is ahead of any of our bigs on the offensive end. Defensively I would rate him as an adequate on the ball defender, but not the protect the paint type at all. I think he can be a primary offensive option on the 2nd unit creating enough space to get off a very reliable mid-range jumper.

ESPN.com wrote:The CSKA coach might also have made mention of Australian forward David Andersen, whose 13 points all seemed to come at important points in the game: a 3-pointer capped a 14-6 run, including seven points from Andersen himself, at the start of that pivotal third period.
Andersen's versatility and a back-to-basket game, which bordered on the unstoppable at times, should have been duly noted by the Atlanta Hawks, who own his rights and are in talks with his agent currently about a possible move to the NBA.

SI.com wrote:2. David Andersen. The 6-11 Andersen is a European free agent this summer whose NBA rights belong to the Hawks, who drafted him in the second round in 2002. He would be an excellent complement to Al Horford's post game because Andersen can stray out to the perimeter as a face-up jump shooter, and he has the playmaking skills associated with European big men.
.... He makes $1.65 million net -- the "net'' meaning that the club pays his taxes, rent and even provides him with a car and driver. Therefore, a competitive offer from the NBA would have to be $2.4 million, but Andersen's price is likely to rise higher as the top clubs bid for him this summer.
... "It's always been a dream of mine, ever since I was young,'' he said of playing in the NBA. "In Australia, European basketball is not really known; I'm pretty sure hardly anyone in Australia is aware that I play on one of the premier European teams. Playing in the NBA would put me more on the map with the people in Australia.''

I hope he would be a good enough defender. No one really touts that in his abilities.
With that comment about NBA teams wanting to bid for him, is there a limit as to how long the Hawks have his rights?
I would think we would retain his rights as long as needed.

David is off contract at the end of this season so even though the Hawks own his rights he needs an additional agreement, which the Hawks are keen to give, for insurance purposes. Keep in mind that this is a guy who is on around 1.5 million Euros net now (CSKA pay his taxes/accomodation/flights for family/whatever he asks for) right now, has been a Euroleague all-star, has won 3 Euroleague titles including as a starter on the most recent one only a couple of weeks ago- this isn't a regular scrub that they are bringing in and if was injured at all during training camp whilst off contract that would be a major issue.
His D is quite good in the post, he just isn't a big swatting help defender- but he does get in the way of guys coming down the lane (he has a pretty wide body) and won't just let guys get easy layups. His rebounding is fine, I think most importantly he is disciplined as all hell and actually boxes out to help his teammates get boards (a sadly increasingly lost art in the NBA).
He'd bring a lot of vet leadership and playoff experience for a guy that age.
