Francis and Green were basically risk free moves - who'd he trade for James? Juwan "1 and 1" Howard? Bonzi Wells had been a cancer on that team since he arrived, they needed a guy who could create off the bench and Jackson worked well in that role.

How can a guy that defends moves like Childress over Iggy/Deng, signing Lo/Speedy to a combined $10m a year, and Marv over Chris Paul criticize a guy for giving Francis and Green a shot for what comes out to $2.5m next year?

A: When the hell did I defend signing Lo and Speedy?

B: Juwan Howard fit a better role with the Rockets in he gave them a back up PF, had a shorter contract than James who didn't fit a need and had a trade kicker that made his contract even bigger.

C: AFTER making that move, and having 4 point guards under contract, two of them with a pretty sizable contract, he signed Steve Francis for too much money.

D: Bonzi wasn't a cancer to the team and every player and Adleman said so. He wasn't a great fit the year before with Van Gundy, but from every report things were going great with Adleman. they traded him because Mike James sucked, Steve Francis sucked, they cut John Lucas and they didn't want to go into the playoffs with a rookie backup point guard.

And seeing as I said pick Paul and not Marvin, I wasn't FOR that pick. I am saying alot of people are using hindsight to pretend like it was just INSANE for ANYONE to pick Marvin despite most talking heads, talk radio, NBA GM's and such saying Marvin was a superstar you couldn't pass on.

I stand by my defense of Chill over Iggy (not as much deng, but still over Iggy).

I heard from a pretty good source that Bonzi is actually a great guy and everyone in Houston loved him just like Rip said. But if that was the worst move that the guy made (among a lot more good ones) then I'd say he did a pretty nice job.

Those late season moves (Bonzi, etc) trimmed just enough to get under the luxury tax so they wouldn't be a payer, but rather a receiver. That motivation mitigates the decision considering they had to be considered long shots for the title with Yao out.
