Trading into the 1st round

What players should we try and get with a late first round pick?

I would buy an early 2nd round pick and draft Ty Lawson who is the fastest guard in the country. He is this years Kyle Lowry.

Hoops said it right. Pursue a early second round pick and stay out of the first round due to the guarantee contracts. We don't have any picks for a reason.

a future 2nd , i'm sure there are some teams looking to dump draft picks.

kings ?
sonics ?
blazers ?

all got 2 or more picks in the 2nd

i'm sure we could get the 36th from portland for a future 2nd

I think Bill Walker is going to be a 2nd round steal for whomever drafts him. Also, I expect Joey Dorsey and DJ White to be this year's 2nd round PF instant contributors at the next level.

If you have confidence in your evaluation and opening on your team that means playing time then I don't mind it being a late 1st to make sure you get the player. The price isn't that bad. A late first is only bad is your are in luxury tax area or you have no PT available in the first 10 slots on your roster.

The Hawks have enough room for a good rookie to contribute, but I not sure about the evaluation skills. If BK was still in control it would be a waste to acquire a lower pick for him to squander. Since a replacement isn't in place yet, who knows if it has gotten better.

Good call on Bill Walker. He is a freak athlete who was productive in his first full year of college basketball. I have no idea why he's projected to go in the second round but I'm guessing his stock will go up after his workouts.

It's amazing how players who were 5 star highschool recruits(Ellis,Blatche,etc)can go later in the draft than players you just know are going to be non-factors like a Wayne Simeon or a Mark Madsen. Even a player like Jackie Butler(who is out of the league)is a smarter pick than players like Donta Smith,Salim,or Solo(any many people wanted Milsap over Solo at the time). I don't want to nitpick over a 2nd rounder(because BK bricked all 3 second rounders AND the AJ trade) but why the hell would you pick Salim over top 5 HS players who are much younger and much more athletic like Lou Williams or Monta Ellis? There is no risk in picking the player with the highest upside when you get past the 20th pick or so. I'd like to trade our 2nd rounder next year to Minny(if the reports are true)for the chance to draft Walker or Lawson.

No more rookies!!!!!!

We have youth at EVERY position.

We are the youngest team in the league....AGAIN!!!!!

We'll be adding two more rooks next year. (Most likely).
Let's focus on adding experienced vets to our bench.
Acquiring big men who'll protect the paint against easy layups.
And getting shooters with a proven track record of hitting big shots.

I hear you, but good franchises build through the draft, not through free agency. When's the last time you saw the Spurs or Pistons add a big-time free agent? Plus, rookies are a lot cheaper than vets and we all know that our owners will never spend big bucks. Big men who can anchor the middle and clutch shooters don't come cheap.

Singletary was the best point guard in the ACC last year who happened to average 19 and 6 for UVA. He is just as quick as Ty Lawson and his offense is very good.

The Spurs and Pistons are two of the oldest teams in the league. They consistntly replace role players through free agency and trades.

McDyess, Kurt Thomas, Michael Finley, Rasheed wallace, Ben wallace, Rasho Nesterovic, Bruce Bowen. the infrastructure of each Championship caliber ball club is based on vets with definite skill sets. Stuckey has provided an usually consistent amount of help this postseason. But the past 5 years have been the Detroit 5 and vets on the bench. SA has had the same core for 5+ years with older players rotated in as necessary.

Young teams, like ours NEVER win anything in the NBA. EVER.
As long as we focus on youth and potential instead of vets and experienced winners, we will never win. We have 10 players 25 and under.

TEN!!!!!! Please, no more youth. let's get some guys with actual NBA experience in our locker room.

Who cares whether the team is old or not. The Spurs and Pistons top 3-4 players are vastly superior to ours. Yes their top players are experienced but they are also talented. Babcock tried to go for 'experience" and failed miserably by trading draft picks for Glen Robinson and Shareef.

We are not going to win an NBA championship any time soon. By the time Al, Marvin, Josh and Acie are 27 we will have a legit shot but not before then.

you got to spend money to acquire vet's and last i checked our owners are pretty tight on spending. So our best chances are building thru the draft due to the rookie contracts , it seems to be getting us out of this hole that we have been in for the past 9 years.

and if we got a shot at getting into this year's draft i'm all for it , just as long as the price isn't too steep.
