Refereeing in game 5...

Post#1 » by parson » Mon Jun 16, 2008 5:27 am

... same # of fouls for each team (28); same # of FTs (31).

Coincidence?

Furthermore, does anyone NOT expect to see the calls go like that the rest of the way?

I think now the refs are trying to hard to make it even in numbers. An even number of fouls doesn't mean the game was fairly called. When Boston played us they were settling for jump shots. If they finished with the exact same number of free throws and foul shots during those games as us it would indicate that we weren't getting rewarded for forcing action or they were getting awarded touch fouls on jumpers so that the count is equal. The playing style was different last night though and the fouls should have been close. I just want to make the point that sometimes a difference is logical and justified and sometimes it is one-sided officiating. Only the latter case needs to be fixed.

Oh, I agree. Furthermore, if you expect the refs to call it exactly even (or as close as they can), it means you can foul and plan on the refs making up a foul on the other team.
