OT: Agent says Lakers' Bynum wants max contract extension

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Wed Jul 2, 2008 2:29 am

Bynum can get a contract extension this summer from the Lakers. When his agent was told that Bynum suggested he would be willing to take less than the maximum of five years, $80 million, David Lee said they would be seeking the maximum.

"He was talking as a 20-year-old," Lee said in a telephone interview Monday. "He had not consulted with his representatives. I think the Lakers know how we feel about this."

The Lakers will now have some pressure on them. They can't allow AB to leave and they certainly have the money to pay him.

I believe will end up dealing with a similar situation once Al Horford's due a contract extension. Al's game just improve at a fast rate and he's probably going to end up being max worthy as well.

It confuses me that his agent's name is David Lee. I don't think Bynum will be signed to an extension this summer, but only because of health concerns. They will let the year play out to verify that he's a healthy young man then pay him. He stays healthy he hits the jackpot. He gets injured again and he has to settle for less. They are in a position to lose him next summer. Now if they can't agree on price next year then it becomes more of an situation.

He needs to show that he can still play after his injury before the Lakers are willing to sign him to a max deal.

I tell ya...33 games of solid play = MAX CONTRACT.

Whats even funnier is the people that think he has earned it. It bears repeating that I think Bynum is going to be very good, but geez. He is tap dancing on that overrated tag right now.
