Wasted Off-Season

Man this entire summer has been horribly mismanaged.

Losing Childress hurts. But what really gets me is the fact that we wasted so much time with no resolution. He went to a different league to get away from us. The Smoove situation isnt much better. And during that time we have missed out on a number of transactions that could have actually made us relevant again.

(For the record, a losing season followed by an unjustly earned playoff berth with a 1st round exit, does not make us relevant.)

Elton Brand, BARon Davis. Unrestricted FA on new teams. James Posey took both his Championship rings to a new team for a fairly modest contract. Camby was traded for a bag of Skittles.

But we missed out on all of this pursuing two players who strongly didn't want to be here. We should have been focused on building a contender. With whomever was a best fit for the ATLANTA Hawks.

Emeka Okafor, Martell Webster, Ben Gordon, Andr Biedrins were all RESTRICTED FA we could have pursued. Trading Smith and Chill alng the way to becoming a REAL team. Even if we had re-signed both of them to long term contracts, this roster still had alot of holes.

We started the offseason with a HUGE expiring contract (Bibby) and a fair amount of cap space and what do we have to show for it.

Even if we had acquired a high salried vet for a few months, we could have allways used him as trade bait around the trading deadline.

The only untouchables on our roster need to be JJ and Horford, a competent GM (even with tightwad owners) should be able to keep us active in an offseason as unpredictable as this. if Chauncey Billups, J kidd or Josh Howard is moved, I want a piece of that action.

let's hope Rick sund realizes that Smoove isnt the only player on the market worthy of our attention.

its kinda scary how stingy and stupid our management and owners are...but you would think after the good showing in the playoffs and the potential that we have the hawks would make some moves but sure enough we didnt...boy are we stupid!! its so hard to belieive in this franchise, but i just hope we dont end up in the gutter again!!
