Bynum has shown legit ability to be a franchise center. I love Al Horford, but I have not seen that from him.

Re: Andrew Bynum
I was hoping someone would say it. He has played pretty good for a 35 game stretch. He still hasn't played major minutes for a full season, is coming off a major knee injury and again, only played well for a 35 game stretch.
By comparison, Marvin williams was averaging 16.7 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assist and a Steal per game his 35th game of the season. IF he had missed the rest of the year then, would there have been all that love for him? Doubt.
That said, you still don't trade bynum because his overall potential is still unknown. He could become a very good player. Or he could still be a fringe player in the NBA. As of now, all he has done was pull a 02-03 Olowokandi. I personally think he is going to be very good. But I have to say alot of people are pretending that he is already the best Center in the NBA.

How can anything be legit about playing well for less than half of one season?

Just so I'm clear, how many precedents can you site of guys playing at Bynum's level for 35 games and then actually not being good?
I'm not saying it isn't possible but the kid was still trending upwards when he went out.
The fact is, I hear so much yip yap on these boards about how much we need a legit C and then I hear names like Kaman, Biedrins, or Dalembert... Bynum is the only one of those guys who has the ability to be close to a real game changer - I'm not that big of a Bynum fan by the way.

So you think greg oden who hasn't even stepped on court in the nba would be more tradable? see how portland responds. It isn't about what was proven... both him and oden are still very raw and lot has to do with potentail... the only real proven young franchise center is dwight howard.
Sasha Vujacic = The Phail Machine = The Ring Blocker
Trade Sasha before he ruins the Lakers next season.

COB, you just named 3 guys that have had great stretchs and I wouldn't consider any of them to be anything close to a franchise Center.
And like I said...the Kandi mans year where he looked like didn't quite suck as much.
And then there are contract years where you can always see guys have great stretchs and they simply aren't that good.
Not that I think that Bynum is at this level. All I am saying is that he hasn't shown any sustained ability to be good.
Guys start the season great all the time and fade. Showing longevity in the season and when it really counts is what really matters.
And not to be nit picking, Horford has shown the ability to play big in the NBA playoffs. That is proving more to be a legit franchise center than a guy playing pretty good for, once again, less than half of a year.
And note, I still haven't said he is tradeable. You don't trade young, seemingly talented bigs for anything.
I am taking to task the people claiming he has proven something. Because he really hasn't.

Look Rip, you gotta play the odds on this one. There is a chance that his 35 game stretch is an anomoly, that he is actually a "fringe NBA player" as you put it. That would be the exception though. The fact is that his 35 games, and again, I note that he was still trending upwards (he was shooting well above 70% for his last 10 games or so), were as strong of a 35 game stretch as any of the non-All NBAers put up over the course of the season. Chances are he's real and his potential is such that it would be worth gambling on, even if that meant gambling on a peice we really like such as Josh or Al.

Re: Andrew Bynum
And again, I am agreeing with you. I believe he is going to be a very good player, that 35 game stretch is a good indication of what he can be and that he is completely untradeable.
HOWEVER, he hasn't done nearly as much as people are giving him credit for. I don't think he has already shown he will be a franchise center. Even a allstar Center. He has shown enough that you under no circumstances trade him because there is a chance he could be really really good. Thats about it.
And no, you don't trade him for Horford, but to say that Bynum has proven himself more than Al Horford is silly. But at the same time Bynum is a legit center with legit size, so Bynums worth should and is more. But he definately hasn't PROVEN himself more than the kid that averaged a double double in the playoffs along with a blocked shot and 3.5 assist against the best team in the league and eventual NBA champions. Will he be better? I think so. But he damn sure hasn't proven to be better already.

Re: Andrew Bynum
Neither one makes sense. First combination has no SF, and the second combo is 3 PF with one guy who can switch to a pseudo C. That is why it's a load of bull people would think it's the Lakers that's trying to get Josh. They won't take on Kenny Thomas's contract and whatever Artest will extend for, but they're willing to take Josh Smiths'?
