I like that we got him. He's much more of a SG and it'll be great if he can give JJ some time to rest. I like what we did this off-season so far. We didn't overpay the RFAs we had and didn't panic when one of them left. I hope all these guys are healthy and develop some nice chemistry at training camp.

I still say sign Jake Voskuhl.

But either way, you have JJ, Marvin, and Smith at the 3. And you can play Evans there in a pinch.

- I hope we uses him right and this does not mean Law gets less minutes, he should be a scorer off the bench.

I hope people really appreciate how bad Acie Law was last year. He hasn't really earned big minutes yet. Honestly, he's the 3rd PG if Claxton is healthy.

- This also means that we could be looking to trade Bibby at trade deadline wich I don“t like.

I don't agree with your logic at all.

- I had some hopes in Gardner that now is dead.

Assuming Gardner even makes the squad, he's just a perimeter shooter...

He's good at scoring from the outside and driving to the hoop...but the only knock that I have on him is that he tends to dominate the ball.....if he has the ball in his hands...there's a very good chance that he will try to score....as opposed to looking for a player to pass to.

With the Pacers last season when he was primarily on the floor with our primary Starters and 6th men....this wasn't a good thing. But if he's coming off the bench as a 8th/9th Man......it maybe okay.

Thats what we are looking for, we need someone to come off the bench and create their own shot. If he is a good enough set shooter to play off JJ, even better but that is less important.

I didn't say that he was a good "creator" when it comes to offense.....I just said that this is what I think that Bird/JO'B was hoping he would do. He was decent enough to keep us afloat at times when the need arouse....but more often then not...he ended up dominating the ball alot...often leading to bad shots.

Also......keep an eye on his dribbling.....when he's in "one on one" mode.....he has a tendency to be more fancy then needed. There were alot of times last season when he tried to do some fancy behind the back dribbling to try to get around another player and ended up coughing up the ball.

Again....he's a decent scorer off the bench......as long as he's playing somewhere behind your primary key players that you want to keep and develop...then he'll do.

Aren't Bibby and Law more of a PG then a SG?

Flip is in no way shape or form a PG.....he's a SG. Really...if you need a rotational PG...Flip isn't your guy....if anything....any PG minutes should go to Law....whether he is ready or not. If you need a rotational SG that can come off the bench to provide some scoring...Flip can do it....but realistically..he shouldn't be doing it at the expense of your prospects that you want to develop.

I like this move. Flip is a talented player but plays much worse when he comes off the bench for some reason. I thought we should have signed him mid-season last year(before he signed with Indiana and torched us in the biggest game of the year) considering that we were using Salim as the backup pg at the time.

I'm not a fan of Flip Murray. But if he isn't in an extended role I can live with it because he's at least a threat to score.

I hope he spends most of his minutes at the 2. We MUST get Acie on the floor this year and see what he can do.

Josh- just out of curiosity how many minutes a game do you need to see Acie play before you will start to think that last year wasn't a fluke?

Very solid signing. LL is a big Flip Murray fan. He can light it up, like Salim without the baggage. This offseason is starting to turn around a little bit...

Is it your contention that we can now accurately judge Acie Law? He was a rookie who had injury trouble and a string of 4,5,6, and 7 minute games.

Chauncey Billups, Sam Cassell, and Steve Nash all had shaky rookie seasons without the injury trouble and inconsistent minutes that plagued Law (don't forget kb, Law had earned himself a starting spot and 20mpg before going down but from there on out he was out of the lineup or dealing with inconsistent minutes).

I'm not one of these guys who thinks that Acie is a sure thing, but I certainly wouldn't rush to judgement on any rookie after their first year unless they proved to be just too unathletic or something.

You REALLY don't like Bibby, eh?

I like the Flip acquisition. The three things I thought we needed coming into the season were a shooter/defender off the bench, a big man that could rebound and defend, and a combo guard who could create his own shot. Evans was a perfect fit, Kwame would have been nice but we are gonna have to cross our fingers for the Zaza/Morris/Hunter squad, and Flip is a perfect fit as well (for the money at least - a better 3pt. shot would have helped).

I don't see the point with Murray.
Bibby-Law
JJ-Evans where does he fits and gets his minutes?
I would have prefer a combo SG-SF (Wells, Finley) with PO experience than PG/SG by the way as mentioned mediocre 3pt shooter...

^Forget Speedy also... although it's a good idea to count him out anyway. Murray would probably be third stringer at SG... so he's for Depth purpose only I suppose.

I don't think last year was a fluke. I see nothing in Acie to indicate a starting caliber PG and as far as I can see you and I are lower on him than most on this board. That being said, we invested a lot in him drafting him at no. 11 and we've got to throw him out there and see what we've got at some point. I would like to see Acie get 20 minutes a night for an extended period of time so we can better evaluate what exactly he is capable of.

COB- I was just asking a question to see how much they actually want to see acie on the court if he does play bad again. I am not saying at all there is no chance that he turns it around, but I would also be willing to bet against him. I mean you would have to work at it to find players who were as bad as Acie as a rookie who ended up being quality starters in the league (though it very well could have happened). Its not hard to find players who were as bad as Acie that turned out to just be lousy players. People don't want to believe that the Hawks made a poor draftpick, but really if you didn't know where he was selected then I think people would have a more realistic view of him.

I love Flip, he alone has outdone what Chill did for us last year as of right now, plus you add an improved Zaza, improved Acie, and Mo Evans..this team has me very excited right now.

Wasn't sure why this topic was dusted off, but Flip is looking like a great signing so far. How long before someone asks Bill Simmons to re-evaluate his statement about the Hawks bench.
