I understand that mrhonline. Joe's going to get a max contract no matter what, but he needs to be more consistent, and especially against the elite teams. During the later part of the game he put the team on his back, but it's still not enough, and it needs to produce during all fourth periods. I did like how he spoke out to the refs tonight instead of just dealing with the bad calls.

Many of us get upset when Joe doesn't get respected by the league or the fans. At times I see why he doesn't get any respect and why some of the stars around the league question why he's playing at All-Star games during the past. He has the talent around him to help him take some of the pressure off, but Joe does need to do more, and I can't help being hard on him.

Personally, I think the Hawks are a better team when Joe isn't trying to dominate the ball until late in the game.

Joe is worth a max contract because of the stability and all-around game he brings to the table. He shoots, he passes, he drives, he defends, he rebounds...

The ASG better prepare themselves.

I would be shocked if Joe signs for something about $100M/5yrs.
Don't get me wrong, Joe is worth max contract, or nearly, but it is not because it's allowed to give a contract like the one Arenas got that it makes sense to do it.
Arenas saying he could have ask for more than 111M but understand WAS need some cash for improve the team is a complete joke, and I think it'd be a joke to sign Joe for that kind of money, and I hope Joe himself know it. Give him 20M/yr and we can't improve for years, or at least loose lots of flexibility.

I can't imagine that, if I had the chance to be in Joe situation, I would take a 80M/5years and give team some room to sign another player a try to be a contender. I don't see the point in getting 20 more $M if it's for getting frustration every following years, even if I understand that many people would not get so much frustration with $20M added to the $80M.

D21- the Hawks aren't going to have any caproom no matter whether Joe signs for 80 or 100 million dollars. And honestly if winning matters more to him that $$ then he will go to another team.

I know there won't be cap room we keep our core, but even if we are over the cap, there's still a difference between those two contract, nearly 4M/yr.

And for example, you can be over the cap at 66M (with 80M contract) and at 70M (with 100M contract).
And the difference is that ASG won't sign another good player if they are at 70M (near the luxury tax), but they will consider signing one player with the MLE if they are only at 66M.
