Re: Warriors@Hawks game thread
If not for those several brutal turnovers that had nothing to do with Golden State's defense this game would have gone over a little smooter. Still pulled out the 16 point win. Flip is a player with many faults, but he's a great weapon when used properly. The only thing that really bugged me about this game was Josh. Numbers weren't bad outside of the turns, but he looked like a zombie out there.

Josh was playing like he has a coach that will bench you for a very long time if you pick up fouls early.
He was active early defensively, then once he got that 2nd foul in the first half, he just let up. Once he picked up number 3 in the third, he was Zaza level of uselessness defensively. Later in the 4th, even when he had his 4 fouls he picked it up.
And it isn't an excuse. You have to play to win and not to stay on the court(if that makes any sense).

I'm talking about on both ends, though. Maybe I was just focusing in on him at the wrong times, but it seemed like his head was somewhere else. Hard to judge someone playing against a school yard team like GS, though.

We are a very confident team at home. Maybe a little too confident. We need to start putting these teams away and resting the key cogs in the fourth quarter, there is no reason for that not to happen considering how dominant we can be at home.
Something needs to change with Josh's play. He is not hungry on D like he should be. I have never seen guys attack him in the paint and have success, but that is exactly what is happening right now. This is the worst I've seen him play in a very long time on either side of the ball. Maybe he isn't back to full speed yet, but he needs to get it together very soon.

Well, to be fair to him, he was pretty huge in the 4th and played some of the smartest basketball I have seen from him. Passing up threes to drive, dishing to a better shooter, great passes around the basket.
But I think it was somewhere in the third quarter where Crawford just went in for a easy layup and he didn't even jump, he just stepped back as he was coming in like he was waiting to inbounds the ball...I don't know...i have never seen that from him.
On offense he is trying to do too much. It is a symptom of guys that work hard on their game in the offseason. They put in all that work and don't want to go out there and not use it. But you know...sometimes there is nothing wrong with not using it. The way he played int he 4th, where he never tried to cross anyone over, made the simple pass that would lead to a score or to another pass to a open guy instead of just trying to go for the homerun pass, no jumpers, controlled drives...thats how he needs to play.
I see what you guys see in Josh right now, but at the end of the day, we still have a 11-4 record(I think) with him in the lineup. Bad Josh Smith still did wonders for our defense.

Im not understanding why ZaZa gets more pt than Solo. When Law came in he did a fairy good job, give the kid 16 minutes a night..

years in the league is the only reason woody plays a guy. He doesn't devlope young players, because he's a bad coach. That's why he preferrs vets over anything. He'd start Mike James over Derrick Rose, and Juwan Howard over Dwight Howard as a rook. Somebody has to get hurt for some of these guys to play. Woody doesn't want them to make him look bad for sitting them on the bench for so long when they could play all along.

I was surprised that Bibby got benched for the entire 4th quarter. He came out with 2:38 left in the 3rd. It was pretty late in the 4th before Murray got hot.
Acie had 5 assists in 8 minutes. I wish he would shoot his layups higher off the glass. His shots are too easy to block right now.

I agree Acie should have gotten more minutes. But you can't honestly believe that he wouldn't start Rose on this team. Acie has shown some flashes, but he's dug a deep hole for himself with his play and will have a tough time getting back into Woody's rotation.
Woody seems to play the +/- game with Flip and Bibby. We were making a run with Flip in the game before he started scoring. Woody stuck with Flip and it paid dividends. I've seen him to do this a couple of times this season and it's worked pretty well.

I would agree with you Josh, except that he has shown this exceptionally long leash with vets and not so much with a young guy like him, or Solo.
Flip Murray has consistently gotten minutes. He will get a good 16-20+ minutes a night no matter how bad he is playing. He can be 0-8 with 5 turnovers and he will still get minutes the next night. Acie has a ridiculously short leash, and then they have the nerve to say "Well, he is playing to tentative". When he isn't playing tentatively, he still will get the quick hook.
It will forever be a simple explanation. You want consistent minutes, consistent results from a player, you have to give him consistent minutes. This team would be SO much better if we could get good consistent minutes for Solo and Acie.

I think we are leaps and bounds better than the Warriors, but could still be emotionally letdown from the heartbreaker vs Boston after we were so hyped for it. We lost 3 straight after losing to Boston last time, so hopefully we will be more mature this time, and take the next game just as importantly as we did the game vs Boston.
Your 1st game thread was alot better than mine.
You did a spectacular job!
