Time to Bench Joe

Post#1 » by Harry10 » Thu Jan 29, 2009 7:40 am

..... for 4 or 5 games.

something is wrong with Joe right now, maybe he is hurt, or overworked, and that is why he is playing like crap. but he seriously needs to sit and rest.

i don't mind seeing Flip geting a few +35min games the next few nights. i think he can fill in for Joe nicely for a short term solution

So you no longer think that Flip should start ahead of Bibby and have moved on to say that flip should start ahead of joe?

All Joe need is some rest. Joe is probably injured or something's bothering him and yet the coach is running him 39+mins/game. Give Murray some of Joe's minutes and Acie to the PG spot. The coach gets nervous when Joe goes out and he shouldn't be for 7-8 minutes/game, especially when Joe is struggling.

This is why I always find myself saying that JJ is not a true superstar after every season. He not only disappears around this time, but his game ends up being so bad that he is actually hurting the team. The guy goes through extended stretches that are unacceptable for anyone who wants to be one of the best players in the league. Clearly, Joe does not fit into that category.

Yeah, not as a punitive measure but for his own good and the good of the team. I'm of the thought that we are, at best, no better off with him than without him when he shoots like this and more realistically, we are worse off.

A game or two of rest could really do him some good. It would also be helpful for Woody and the rest of the players to try and run an offense than didn't consist of force feeding a cold Joe. Last night we ran the pick and roll with Josh twice and got baskets both times but once the fourth came around, we went back to a stale iso-set. While Joe is in the game, the temptation for Woody and just as importantly, Joe's teamates, is going to be to trust Joe with the game on the line. He's just not that guy right now though.

No way you sit him. You change the coach who plays him 40min a night, making him the focus on offense, posting up (that gets your tired, trust me). I just think Joe has to change his game a bit. He's become a bit too predictable. He might be hurt or overworked, but we all know whay he can do. Without him we'd struggle MUCH more.

Harry10 retains his title as most unintentionally hilarious poster around.

Joe sitting for the last two games has been the best thing for the Hawks... it has actually given Marvin a chance to actually develop.

Joe is a great player, and i don't blame him for any of the Hawks troubles, but i really feel for Marvin, having that much talent, and just standing around watching Joe do ISO.

agreed. Hawks got a lot of guys who just like chucking shots up like bibby, joe, smith, and flip. So marvin kinda gets the shaft playing next to those guys. And pretty much everytime one of the chuckers go out and marvin is able to get more shot attempts, he plays really well.

Maybe he should take a couple more games off. Hawks almost look like they play better without him...
