Woodson COY candidate?

I only pose this question because it was the poll on ESPN's daily dime today. I voted 'no' as did 56% others. I think he has done a fair job, but I think the Hawks could be slightly better with a different coach. I just don't see anything that points to him being the reason we have improved. I think it has more to do with Bibby being healthy, Flip providing O off the bench, and the fact that we're playing better team ball recently.

He has to be a candidate. We made massive improvements this year and it has shown in our record. I still wouldn't vote for him, I think most of our success comes from the increasing maturity and talent of our players reaching a higher level (obviously there is still a looong way to go in those areas).

I think most NBA awards are a joke but none more so than coach of the year. Anytime a team improves the media automatically can't wait to give all the credit to the top player on the team and the coach. Did Sam Mitchell really deserve the credit for the Raptors "turn around" even though their entire roster was different outside of 2-3 players? It was also really convenient that Scott's coach of the year award came when Paul turned into a top 5 player in the NBA and Peja/Chandler/West all stayed healthy for the 1st time ever. You will also notice that Scott will get zero consideration this year despite the fact that they are going to win over 50 again with no bench and Peja/Chandler(who has been much worse even when he has played) missing significant time. It seems like whoever wins the award gets a nice new contract and then just get's fired in a couple of years anyway.

To Woodson's credit the team has actually improved despite having alot more injuries this year. I suspect that's because they are a more confident group thanks to last year's playoff run. I think in past year's he would have been a legitimate candidate but I would guess that Mike Brown is a lock if Cleveland finishes with the best record.

He might not get any of our votes because we watch this team play every night. But he's going to be a COY candidate for sure. There's no way he wins it though.
