I was the one who voted for needing 50 wins and they've not got there yet, but I admit it they're right in the range. It's all the more surprising when you realize the team hasn't had perfect health.
From my perspective Woodson doesn't deserve all the credit or all the blame for not be up to par the last couple of years. The real difference is in my opinion is the GM change and a couple of personnel decisions. Those decisions were signing Flip Murray to provide 2nd unit scoring, not signing Josh Childress, and having Mike Bibby for a full season. While Bibby was acquired by Billy Knight, it seems appropriate to deny him credit for finally getting an NBA caliber player for PG after years of actively denying the need. Billy Knight failed to complete the roster and made bad decisions that held the team back for years and will probably haunt the team for another decade. I still don't like Woodson, but he unfairly got more of my scorn for years. I think I probably distributed the anger equally between the coach, the gm, and the owners. Now I coming around to Billy Knight being the main thorn in my side with ownership and coach as just smaller thorns.
How many wins next season to justify Woodson's extension?

This still sounds about right.
By the way, where did ol' rip go?

^^^ He's probably going around the NBA trying to convince teams that Salim can play. Woody "ruined" him by not allotting him 15 minutes a night to brick as many shots as he pleased remember? Hilarious. Now the guy isn't even in the D-league or Europe that I know of. He also said that Jeremy Richardson, Salim, and Acie were on par with Powe, PJ Brown, and Eddie House if they had been coached correctly in this thread.
I can't say I don't miss him a bit, as he was a knowledgeable poster and it was always fun to discuss the team with him.
And since we're taking a trip down memory lane with this thread, I'd like to add that my other favorite homer comparison of last offseason was those who said Law was on the same level as Rondo in terms of being a good prospect.

Uhh.. what about that statement is the least bit wrong? SHOULD means that its expected and to do anything else would be underperforming. I realize that people here still hate woodson even though the team is getting a top 4 seed but I just can't understand how anyone thinks it woudl have been a bad season if the Hawks were the 5th or 6th seed. Woudl you really have been willing to bet before the season that the Hawks were a top 4 seed!?

Nobody here expected the Hawks to be a 4th seed. If they say they did, they're either lying or delusional (Harry, I'm putting you in this category). Nobody in the world expected us to be a 4th seed. It's a nice change for the Hawks to overachieve for once!
(of course, if we had anyone other than Woodson as our coach - we'd be the 1st seed and competing for the title this year...)

actually i did

i think i was also the only one who thought and posted that the Falcons could make the playoffs with a rookie QB.
it is pretty obvious that i'm one of those annoying optimist. but i think all athletes are optimist, because what athlete goes onto a court of field and think they are going to lose?
in a previous thread, after the Celtics series, i stated that the Hawks could be a top 3 team in the east, if the Hawks signed a defensive center, like Mutombo or Kwame, and an offensive guard who can create for himself, like Jarvis Hayes or Damon Stoudamire. the Hawks could be on the same level or just a little bit ahead of Orlando, behind Boston and Cleveland, and number three in the east, and i was called an idiot for posting it..... i was looking really hard for that thread, but this was the only one i could find.
that is why, as most of you already know, i was so ecstatic when Flip was signed, an offensive guard who can create for himself. alot of people know the "crazy" stuff i posted when Flip was signed, and i was called an idiot for that also.
so shut your mouth LLCoolScott, unlike you, i have a higher IQ than GWB and i am a true Hawks fan
