Was this season a success?

Post#1 » by JoshB914 » Tue May 12, 2009 5:10 pm

A simple question with a not so simple answer. What do you guys think?

Personally I think this year was a huge success. We saw a lot of our players take major strides, I feel we saw Woody make major strides as a coach, we saw that we have a GM competent enough to build an actual bench, and most importantly, we accomplished our two main goals of getting home court advantage and winning a first round playoff series.

Getting beat down by Cleveland like that really sucks. But I think we can look back on this year and be proud, as the Hawks took a major step towards becoming consistent winners this season.

Just think about how far we have come. It wasn't that long ago that we were winning just 13 games and were the laughing stock of the league. Now we are a legitimate opponent in the EC with the potential to make some real noise in the future if we continue to progress as we have over the past five seasons.

lets see.... last year 1st round exit, this year 2nd round exit, next year Eastern Finals? I say this year was a success for you guys. Your team is young and talented with a few very good veteran players. I think next year is going to be CLE and ATL for the East crown. Good luck.

I think this is a successful year.

Just think about it, you guys past the 1st round, the only thing is you guys lost to the King in 4 games.
I don't think this will take away the success you guys have.

Yes. In retrospect I think we could have gotten up to the low 50s in terms of wins but we still would have been fourth seed, still would have beat the Heat, and still would have gotten smashed by Lebron and the guys that get to play with him.

It was a fun season too. 47 wins... that means that on any given night that the Hawks were playing there was a (remotely) greater chance that we won. Remember in days gone by when it seemed like we won once a month? When the season stopped mattering after February?

Agree with most of that - but highly doubt we are able to get past the Magic barring either a major injury to Dwight or a major trade for the Hawks.

A sucess is a championship. There was progress but more could have been done to help the team. We still have Woodson and a pitifull bench. Our bigs are not BIG. Sund did NOTHING to resolve these problems that were already evident last off-season.

Unless more is done the Hawks will top out very soon.

Seriously please let us know what moves you think the Hawks should make to become championship contenders. Unless it involves a time machine I think we will all be highly entertained on what you think that offseason looks like

Hell, the 13- and 26-win seasons were all but over by the end of November.

This season was a success, there is no doubt about it. You cant hang ur head. 3 years ago we won 13 games. This is still amazing.
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

This season was a success. I think people would have enjoyed it more if not for the weird scheduling which caused us to stay at home or on the road for weeks at a time which led to some pretty inconsistent play for a 47 win team. I will definitely remember the high points more than the lows though.
