Caron Butler for Marvin Williams would ATL consider this?
Marvin Willaims for C. Butler..would ATL fans consider this trade a fair trade?
Build your team w/5 shooters using P. Pierce Form deeply bent hips and lower back arch at same time b4 rising into shot. Elbow never pointing to the ground! Good teams have an engine player that shoot volume (2000 full season) at 50 percent.Large Hands

I would say it is fair. Butler can definitely play. It would also be very economical because the Hawks wouldn't resign Marvin if they had Butler.
Tough call though. I am not sure what i would do.

Marvin for Butler, in a heart beat. Josh Smith, not so much. Not because it wouldn't be fair value, but be because it would create a gap defensively that I don't think we could fill.

I'd do it for Marvin but I would have to think harder about trading Smith for him...he is good but he does miss a good number of games in just about every year.

Agreed, Marvin for Butler is more than fair and leaves us looking like this:
PG
Joe
Butler
Josh
Al
Whereas Josh for Butler leaves this:
PG
Joe
Butler
PF/Al
Al/C
Just another hole to fill in the front court. I suppose we could do a trade revolving around Josh for Caron and Blatche and platoon Blatche with Zaza (if he's resigned) and Al for our frontcourt rotation, but that rotation needs another athletic defender more than our lineup now does.

We would also have the cap space to fill the holes. for example we could make a big offer to
Gortat giving us a defensive center we have needed for years. We could also bring over Andersen for more scoring off the bench and another big.
There is no way we could get Butler for Marvin.

I think the largest offer that can be made to Gortat is the value of the MLE. As a restricted 2nd rounder that is the rule that went into effect after the Warriors lost Arenas to Washington because they couldn't match the offer under cap rules. The most a team could offer Gortat is the average salary (MLE). Orlando could match it but to do so would surely mean exceeding the luxury tax (which they may have to do just to resign Hedo) which means they would essentially be paying twice the salary to keep Gortat. I suspect someone will offer Gortat the full MLE to see if Orlando blinks. If we did that we'd likely lose Flip unless he is willing to play for the BAE, which is unlikely given his strong season (unless he gets no offers).

I love Butler's game, so I would do it for Marvin as well. I'd throw in a 2nd rounder, too. (Not that those have a ton of value, but it might help).

I'd think that it would make sense for the hawks to take back either Songalia or Deshawn Stevenson as part of that trade if the numbers could be made to work.
Honestly even if its Marvin and the hawks pick for Butler I do that as well.

Butler is sick...20-6-4, pretty healthy, 29 y/o...he's almost as good as JJ. I'd definitely consider trading Smith for him too. We'd still need a center but JJ-Butler gets us in the playoffs every year. Marvin for him would be the easiest trade in history, I'd be surprised if Washington did that, I think they're looking to add a veteran to put them back in the playoffs (assuming Arenas healthy).
Commit to the process

Marv for Butler = Hell Yes
Smith for Butler = Not without other players involved that solidify the interior defense (might have to involve a 3rd team)
