I heard it from Dominique

Post#1 » by rak1974 » Fri May 29, 2009 1:38 pm

sI work for Delta airlines and I just( about five minutes ago saw and spoke to Dominique Wilkins) he was on a flight headed to Nassau. So first I got his autograph( for my son LOL). Then I ask him to give me the scoop. He told me that he likes Orlando to win. I told him I didn't care about the Playoffs. I enjoy watching it but I am a hawks fan. And I wanted to know what they planned on doing to make our team better.
He told me that they are not sure as of yet but some changes are on the way. I ask what kind, he didn't wont to get into specifics but he said some trades..... that right plural. I told him that I think we need a center, he agreed. I asked him about Chill and he said that they are working on bring him back.
That is all I had time to get out of him, but he seemed pretty open to discuss things with me freely. I wish I had time to pull some more info out of him. I was thinking bout you guys the whole time.

rak, welcome to the board and if you missed what I wrote the other day.....

I spoke with Dominique briefly this past Sunday at an event he attended. Like the article he spoke about a Reggie Evans type of player, we both agreed that DeJuan Blair won't be around at 19, and he told me that we'll work out a VERY limited amount of players(after I asked him if he plans on attending all the workouts). He also seems to expect Mike Bibby to be back and said we need a point to come off the bench that can not only absorb minutes, but also one that is a scorer. I didn't feel the need to mention this until you posted the article due to the lack of information. He did seem to smile when I mentioned Blair to him, but obviously I knew he'll already be gone by the time we pick.

He was asked about Coach Woodson and he responded that the players are accountable for themselves no matter who the coach is.

Please no Childress. He doesn't fit.

he fit great when he was here...i think that bringing back chillz could bring what we need so much--motion off the ball. having a player who plays so well without the ball could be a great asset to us. i know that aspect wasn't utilized enough when he was here, but i think that this team has grown a lot in the past 2 years and his skill set could be a great addition to the current roster.

bring back Chill does not mean that he would stay...just like Anderson. They are tradeable assets, now or later during the season...along with our pick this year and next.

Childress fit? What I saw was an inverted offensive set with Childress outrebounding the guard he was matched with and Josh Smith and either Horford or Zaza trying to take the opposing PF outside and C at least to the elbow. It was an ineffective offensive set at best. I also saw a horrible outside shooter who needed a lot of space to get his shot off cleanly which meant if he was on the perimeter that he didn't stretch the defense at all. If everyone else on offense was a threat then we could absorb having a guy who's only a threat on garbage rebounds. On defense I saw a guy without the foot speed and lateral quickness to cover either the guards or small forwards that he was matched up with. Childress on D made Deng and Igoudala look like all world players when they played us. They are good, but not that good. He's not the defensive stopper that you would hope to get for given his offensive limitations. IMO, his price tag far exceeds his contributions and I was happy to have him replaced by Mo Evans, who is faster and can shoot an open 3, and Flip Murray who is a better ballhandler (Childress was often played at G) and a true offensive threat off the bench. I'd rather sign Mario West early to a deal with a team option on year 2 with the understanding that we what to coach him up offensively this summer so that when the season comes around that he can be a defensive stopper who at least has a couple of hot shooting spots so he isn't a complete void on one end.

You also have to think why exactly would Chill come back? He is making money over there. He comes back he will be making less and will have less of a roll (who is he going to take minutes from? If we resign Marvin we will have marvin, evans, and chill all having to split minutes?).
