I cannot believe we passed on Mills

Post#1 » by gurpilo » Sat Jun 27, 2009 11:05 am

He was there, we still don´t have a starting PG and we passed on him for that European guy that will never come to play. I cannot understand it. Mills would have provided quality minutes as backup PG and could develop somedya into a starting PG, I see him as Aaron Brooks type of player. We could have not signed Murray and sign a starting PG and a big. Blazers got a steal there again...

the problem is he isn't a true PG, (he played off the ball in college this year), and he's 5'11 and prone to shooting to many 3's.

Umm who would we sign as a starting pg and a big? Bibby and zaza, because that is about all we can get.

What's wrong with Zaza & Bibby, even if that's all we can get?

There is nothing wrong with them besides the fact that neither plays defense and Zaza looks lost out there most of the time.

yeah i know..... i mean here is a guy who we could have gotten in the second round who could have instantly contributed for a playoff team. total no-brainer

....... this is the Chris Duhon, or Maurice Williams non-pick all over again :x

I feel Patty Mills is a PG, but having 2 rookie PGs on a Mike Woodson coached team seems like a waste to me. Also, it was the draft. That's only one piece of the puzzle. Starting PG will be resolved in free agency (unless they've plotted something crazy).

In the free agency period there are options:
1. Resign Bibby
2. Resign and start Flip.
3. Go after a free agent like Ramon Sessions or Raymond Felton.
4. Make a trade for a PG.

Have patience.

As starting PG we have Bibby or someones like Felton or Sessions, my favourite. For the big I would try to sign a defensive big as Petro or Andersen or somenone that can contribute as Gooden or Wilcox, we have options there. I dont`t think Flip is an option really

That´s exactly my point, you have a quick PG that was considered a first round pick an arrives at 49, you cannot pass on him. We will remember this pick. This was a deep draft on role players and this falls could happen (Budinger, Young, Blair, Mills...) We should have tried to get an early second round pick.

Besides if we would have Mills we don't need to resign Murray as we would have Teague and Mills to replace him and we would have had more cap space to sign Marvin, the PG and the big we need.

I still don't know if we are going to sign a starting PG, what is the plan for Crawford????. I really hope we don´t plan to start him at PG.

His college numbers just scream Boobie Gibson/Tyron Lue to me. Just compared to the other college pgs who went 1st round-2nd worst at getting to the FT line, near the bottom of the pack in assists(so was teague though),the worst rebounder, and shot the lowest percentage by a wide margin. All of these while playing in a mid major conference.

Now I wouldn't have been mad if we had taken him at 49,but I just don't think he's good enough at any one particular aspect to even consider at 19.

Split the mle between those two types of guys? Sessions would more than likely take the full, or near the full, to bring in, same with Felton. If we sign them then we wouldn't have any space to give a legitimate offer to bird man or wilcox.

^^^ Well put. All 4 guys mentioned would require either all or at least a big chunk of the MLE. That makes them exclusive of one another. You can break up the MLE, but the sum of the parts can't exceed the MLE itself. You can get one of them then it means using BAE and minimums on free agents that we don't have the rights to. Chris Wilcox is the only guy I think may fall substantially lower. If market proves tough he might be had for the BAE, but that would be a late signing (it would take time for him to realize the reality of the situation).
