Magic agree in principle to a 4-year deal with Brandon Bass

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Fri Jul 10, 2009 6:13 pm

The Orlando Magic have met their No. 1 goal in free agency this off-season: adding a big man. An NBA source has told the Orlando Sentinel that the Magic and free-agent power forward Brandon Bass have reached an agreement in principle for a four-year deal.

At 6 feet 8 and 250 pounds, Bass shores up Orlando's frontline, which had only three players under contract as of Thursday: Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis and Ryan Anderson.

Bass, 24, averaged 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game last season for the Dallas Mavericks. Bass was an unrestricted free agent. Link

Supposedly the last year of the deal was a player option. Sort of annoyed that the Hawks gave more to Zaza than the Magic gave to Bass.

I dunno; I like Bass as well, but Zaza to me gives you more on the defensive end with his height alone than Bass. I don't see Bass dealing with KG or Perkins very well.
I could be wrong here, but just see Zaza as a better backup to Horford than Bass.

Now, I am a Big Baby proponent, so either he or Bass would have looked good here in the rotation.

I think that Bass is a far better defender- I don't care how tall Zaza is. Bass is better on offense as well and is younger. I'd easily take Bass and Petro or Swift over Zaza if I could get Bass cheaper than Zaza. I am just troubled by giving Zaza 4 guaranteed years.

You would rather have Petro and Swift than Zaza?? Zaza plays hard on every possession and plays with heart, those guys(Petro and Swift) have no heart...

In our most important game of the past season(game 4 in Miami) Zaza had 12pts and 18 rebounds and if not for him playing his ass off that game we would be done in 6....

Zaza is a very physical player down low, he is not afraid to bang with the big boys...

Why not bring John Edwards back than? He would be cheaper than Petro and Swift..

Also Zaza is a nice guy, if you get a chance to see him outside of Philips make sure you meet him cause he will not brush you off..

I said I would rather have Bass and either Petro or Swift than Zaza. Not Petro and Swift.

I agree with you on Bass over ZaZa, but those other two guys suck big time.

tranjSAIC, how can you come to the conclusion that Robert Swift sucks when the most games he's played during one season was 47? He was drafted out of High School and has suffered injuries throughout his career. All it takes is one healthy season with solid numbers for this 7-footer and he could become as popular as Birdman.

Well, Greg Oden is already a bust according to many. So if he is Swift takes the cake as well.

Not taking sides on the Robert Swift discussion, but I would suspect that he might have trouble getting sign off from a team physician for an offer.
