Agreed. If there was a readily available PG that would improve our team I think we would have gone for him. But Bibby at this price is the best option at this point. It's funny to hear the talking heads on the radio go on and on about Andre Miller, clearly they don't know he's 33-years old.

I don't really see how anyone could complain about this. If it were a 4 or 5 year deal then sure it could become a problem. Once you are getting up into a 7 or 8 million dollar a year contract then if he has to be a backup its hamstringing your team. But if he makes 6.5 million and is still a knockdown 3 point specialist he can be a useful player in 3 years. There are plenty of contracts that I would have been irritated with but seriously- this is just good value for a guy who had a very solid year. Even if he regresses then this deal isn't a cap killer.

^^^Yep. Veteran PG's who can hit the open 3 are valuable assets as expiring contracts.

So what we're really looking at here is a two-year commitment to Bibby as the starter and then a major asset the third year.

I really want to give Sund credit on this. I think there are a lot of GM's that would have panicked and overpaid just because they could. (I think he should have used more patience on Crawford but thats a different issue) He was able to look around and see what the market was going to get and got the guy he wanted to bring back on a reasonable contract. Once he signed Crawford and drafted Teague I thought it was a clear sign that he wasn't going to sign bibby but lots of that is because I thought for MLE money he would rather go to a contender. Just a great job by Sund.

Great deal by the GM. Not a long contract (I fear we had to stay with Bibby for 4/5 years "a la Claxton") and that gives still space for signing Williams and Zaza or even pursuit another big.
Bibby is almost the perfect complement to JJ, as JJ has good ball control and is the de facto point guard. All he need besides is a player that you cannot leave open and who is accostumed to shoot when it matters andthat also can knock down the free throws.
We now have four good veteran guards (three really good ones) that can play and are respected by the players and the officials (really important) and a young nucleus which should be better every year and, hopefully, the level of the last reaches the top when the level of the former is still in a high place.
From here we should go get another big besides Zaza.
Regarding Pachulia, I would love to see some phisical improvement in his lower body for next year. If only he could jump 10 cm more /which would around 25 in total...) when he gets an offensive rebound or when he gets a pass from a penetrating guard...
The greatest thrill is not in killing, but in letting live.

I'm glad he wanted to be a Hawk. It seems to me he could've made a little more money somewhere else if that was his intention. Anyway, I'm happy to see he'll be back, we have a hell of a backcourt now.

JJ isnt respected by officials what so ever hahahahah. It doesnt matter if Bibby is respected he doesnt play D and all he is does is shoot jumpshots. But hey good signing. I dont expect to be any better next year but this signing buys more time for teague. Bibby should be a nice guy to learn from.
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

To be honest I think Bibby isn't that good anymore... But at that price it was a reasonable resigning.

I am pretty sure everyone feels that way. Bibby is obviously not as good as he was with Kings but he can still be a good starting pg.

Bibby had a great season (of course it was a contract year). The reality of the salary cap is that resigning Bibby was the best thing for our team. If we were forced to sign another free agent we would only have had the MLE to work with and then wouldn't be able to use it to strengthen another position as we theoretically still can. If we had to go the S&T route then we would have had to relinquish an asset or two to make it happen which hurts the overall team. If we were forced to go with Crawford, Murray, or Teague it would be a step down in terms of PG play from Bibby. Crawford and Murray can score but they aren't as good at PG as Bibby and Teague being a rookie isn't ready to take over running what hopefully is a playoff team. I think everyone is pleased to get Bibby inked for that price instead of eating a few extra million in cap space like Jason Kidd is doing in Dallas. That could mean the difference between getting another rotation big instead of relying on Solomon Jones to step up.

SUND +1 again! More important is resigning players shows FA that people want to stay and play for the Hawks. Unlike Childress and others players that would not think twice about making Atlanta their destination.

Everyone on this board knows the value Zaza has but we also recognize the need for Horford to move to his natural PF position and get a solid big man in here. Sund has taken the opportunities that have presented themselves to us and done very well. We might have to PUSH to get the big we need.

Just a tip of the hat to the job Sund is doing. When we had BK at the helm it was all excuses. I don't here anything about the ownership issues holding us back with Sund. I just see strong calculated opportunist management with a plan.

due to recent developments..... this is absolutly a horrible deal for the Hawks.

wanted the Hawks to go after Jarrett Jack for cheap then go after Bibby if Jack declined. but because Bibby was signed before an offer was made to Jack, it now turns out that the Hawks overpaid for a declining PG.

Bibby is getting 6M per, that is a horrible price when you can get a young talented PG (of the futrue) who has NBA starter talent for 5M per. a possible PG rotation of Jack and Teague would have been solid.

who's to say that Jarrett Jack would have fit with the rest of the hawks. for one extra million dollars a year. I would rather have Bibby. because he know how to play with JJ the the crew. May jarrett would have. maybe not.
Keep Mike Bibby
