Coach Woodson could coach East All-Stars

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Tue Jan 26, 2010 3:50 pm

The main focus for the Hawks is to finish the week with the Southeast Division lead, but there’s also another carrot out there.

If the Hawks are in second place in the Eastern Conference after Sunday, Hawks coach Mike Woodson would coach the East team at the Feb. 14 All-Star game. Cavaliers coach Mike Brown is ineligible since he coached in the game last season.

The Hawks started the week tied with Orlando for third in the East and one-half game behind Boston for second. Miami is far behind those three teams so either Woodson, Boston’s Doc Rivers or Orlando’s Stan Van Gundy will coach the East All-Stars.

The Hawks play host to Boston on Friday and are at Orlando on Saturday. Orlando also plays host to Boston on Thursday.

Rivers and Van Gundy have coached the All-Stars before. Woodson seemed taken aback by the possibility of coaching in the game for the first time.

“It’s something I never imagined or dreamed of doing,” Woodson said. “But what’s more important is the development of this team.” Link

Who would have thought that? Not me, and not even Woody.

OT: Did he lose a bet shaving his eyebrows?

That's going to be fun when he doesn't give a **** about the offense, and only cares about defense... in the ASG.

^^^HAHAHA YA. I wanna see him take AI out and insert Joe and run some strong isos while giving LeQueen the finger.
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

Good for Woody if it happens! He's just as deserving as anyone else. Go Hawks!

I, for one, would love to see him coach the all-star team - more than Doc Rivers especially.

With the loss to San Antonio, Woodson is now a long shot to be the coach. Basically, we need wins over Boston and at Orlando on back to back nights while Boston must also drop one of its other games (Orlando and the Lakers). Best record in the East outside of Cleveland (ineligible) at the end of January gets to coach. I can see getting a win over Boston (they play Orlando on Thursday) and them losing at least another game, but Orlando has owned the Hawks.

As I posted in the Celtics game thread, Woody's ASG coaching destiny is the team's hands. If the Hawks win both games (Celtics at home and Orlando on the road) then they'll have the 2nd best record in the East at the end of January (Boston could tie but the tiebreaker goes to Woody because he's never coached in the ASG before). A loss in either will likely crown Doc or SVG as All-Star coach for the East.

In case anyone wonders coach doesn't affect naming substitute players if needed as they are named by NBA league offices.

I believe it is now winner of tomorrow's game in Orlando coaches the East in the ASG. SVG vs. Woody
