so we are all thinking about the question "what if Joe leaves"? Hawks could try to get a decent free agent to fill in for Joe, or move Crawford to the starting spot. some have mention that moving Jamal to starter will lose alot of bench production.
i was trying to look at some possible players who could do the same thing that Flip did, give the Hawks some instant offense at a good price.
if the price is right, Harrington could be that guy. Harrington could come off the bench and be a ball hog when Jamal and Marvin need a rest.

I would prefer a 2/3 over a 3/4 because of the lineup possibilities. Even with Harrington, who is going to backup crawford?

Re: Al Harrington?
I hated Al Harrington's last stint with the club. Mainly I felt he should have been dealt before his value eroded or his presence could slow the development of Marvin Williams. Billy Knight held on to him too long, but did actually get a 1st out of him, but used the pick on Acie Law which turned out not to be as safe as thought.
Having got that off my chest, we could do worse in scorer off the bench, but at this point in Al Harrington's career I don't think he'd sign for what I would want offered and that's a 1 year deal. I think he still hopes to land at least a 3 year deal (if not longer) before he becomes a year-to-year player. I just wouldn't want him on the payroll longer than the Bibby deal in case the new CBA forces some hard choices on the team.

Mo
Zaza/Joe Smith/Harrington/Mo/Teague
Joe and Mo can focus on playing D. Zaza does what he does. hopfully Teague developes, but if he doesn't, just give the Hawks some young legs and energy off the bench

Joe Smith will be gone unless he gives us 10 and 10 in the playoffs. The logic is sound plus I'm absolutely positive that we will draft a wing with our 1st. Then there's this Childress character I keep hearing about.

Nate Robinson-PG
Mike Miller-SG/SF
Kyle Korver-SG/SF
Wesley Matthews-SG/SF
Larry Hughes-SG/PG
Manu Ginobili-SG/PG
Roger Mason-SG/PG
All of them could be better back ups than Al Harrington. I love Nate Robinson the most out of this group.

Re: Al Harrington?
^ Nate is okay, but doesn't help Teague develop
Korver is not better than Harrington, he is a guy who can shoot, not a guy who can create his own shot
Miller and Hughes are on a steep decline and would just end up being a waste
I would love to get Manu or Roger Mason, but the Hawks couldn't afford them, but if either one of those guys is willing to come to ATL, then i'm all for it!

Re: Al Harrington?
Woodson is so poor at developing youngsters, maybe we'd be better served by trading all our picks for veterans. Maybe Teague'd be better off if we got something for him before Woodson ruins him (I tell ya, if Acie Law turns out to be a player....).
So, yeah, Robinson would make sense, right after we trade Teague.
Don't want Miller or Korver.
Matthews is interesting; Hughes would only work with a cheap contract; why even bother with Mason? and Manu is only going to get away from SA if he's finished -- and I don't think he is.
So... Nate and Matthews. We could probably get 'em both for less than the $7million we'll have.
Hooray?

My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.
