joe johnson in the last 4 mins

Post#1 » by general » Tue Mar 23, 2010 2:43 am

Woody has to call some other plays for other guys atleast plays for crawford.Because seeing joe take every single shot in the last 3 mins isn't gonna get us far in th eplayoffs you have to mix it up as a coach..Even Kobe or Lebron don't shoot everytime the last 3mins of the game Crawford is a flat out better scorer then joe why didn't he take any shots down the stretch besides the last 5 second shot?

Joe was 7 for 11 in the 4th but I have a problem with the Hawks 4th quarter offense. EVERYONE was involved vs. San Antonio which is why that was my favorite game of the year.

The Hawks didn't have a single assist during the entire 4th quarter tonight. They are going to keep losing these type of games if their goal in the 4th quarter is to try to get up as many heavily contested 2 pointers as possible.

On principle, when ANY player is hot, I believe we should go to him until the defense changes to stop him. So, last night, I had no problem with Joe shooting so much: they couldn't stop him.

I didn't like that his last shot was against a double-team with no one for us under the basket.....

Horford was right under the basket with nobody near him. However he stood right in front of the rim and jumped too soon which allowed Ridnour to get the rebound on the weak side.

^In the heat of the moment we see things differently. You may be right but I didn't see Horford there. I DID see Bogut there, however, and I think he was the one who got that rebound.

Nope. It was Ridnour who got the rebound on the weakside. Horford was right in front of the basket. In fact JJ might have been able to throw an alley oop to him.

I'm not an avid Hawks fan but I have been rooting for them this year because I like Jamal and underdogs. Atlanta has been good but I considered them underdogs to the other Big 3 before the season. While I was comfortable with the Hawks early this season, I now have serious questions about whether they can even get through the first round. The 4th quarter offense is weak and inconsistent at best. I think against any good defensive team the Hawks need a pretty big lead to be able to hold on. There needs to be more movement in the half court offense at the end of games. relying solely on JJ or Jamal to go one on one will not get the Hawks past the first round.

Right, but it's possible that when they start to play like that, the other players start to be more passive, being less invlolved, so when they are needed again, once Joe can't continue (it would be the same problem if Crawford was on fire and took all the shots), they are not ready to contribute.

And there was another problem:
the team was clearly at its best with Bibby on the floor Each time he was on the floor, they did not loose any points on MIL, so why Woody (and it's not the first time) did he bench him at 63-53, and decide to bring him back at 86-89 ?

Woody needed loosing 13pts to realize that they was playing better with him.
Actually, I am not sure if he realize anything, because after brigning him back with 6" left, he decided to bench him again 3 minutes later at 90-91, to bring him one last time with 25 seconds left.

I really don't understand that.
He wants to play him less this season, that's OK, but can he try at least to play him when he's clearly needed for the team.

The TOR game was a L because he didn't see that Evans was the guy needed at the end, even with 5 fouls, and he chose to replace him by Marvin while Marvin had not show anything in this game.

If he can't be that bad, I will really start to think that he wants the 4th seed and makes the team loose some games like that.

I'll have to take Woodys side on the Bibby issue. I think benching Bibby late in games has been one of Woody's better moves of the season. In recent games when Bibby has played more than a minute in the 4th quarter the Hawks have lost
