Offensive Assistant Coaches

Post#1 » by djjob23 » Tue Mar 30, 2010 6:35 pm

The coaching situation this offseason will be determined by our Playoff run. Our talent is unbelievable, but our offense is horrendous in the 4th quarter. The 4th quarter in the regular season gives us a sneak peak of what our play will be like in the playoffs. Mike is a great coach for us, but he does not have a good offensive mind to tell him when the iso's fail, go to something new. We should look this offseason into getting an X's and O's assistant coach that can call the offense and use our balanced lineup to our advantage.

Does anyone know which coaches are looking for an assistant coach job? Would Steve Smith be an option? I know he was looked to coach the team a few years back. Which coaches are offensive minded, with an X's and O's artilery?

Won't matter. It's Woodson who orders the iso's in the 4th. Getting an offensive coach - even a genius - to design a crackerjack offense would only tease us before Woodson stuck a pin in it.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

I'm no fan of the iso BS either. But it's up to Joe and Craw to use their individual ability to score or create, and they simply have not done that down the stretch over the past couple of months.

Last time I remember Craw or Joe creating for another dwon the stretch was agasint the Knicks, where Craw passed it to Smoove for the easy dunk. HAHAHAHA
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

Last year we were winning and loosing with Joe's FG%, and now, it's the same thing with Joe and Crawford. Same old thing because there is no good offense, at least to end some moves strated with ISO.
And last year, we knew that it could end on Bibby hitting some clutch shots.
Now, he's not used like it was, and it hurts too, because he won't hit it the same.

Instead of improving the offense, the addition of Crawford, mainly as second scoring leader, and because of the bad use from Woody, have led ATL to be worst than last year in 4th quarter.
Our two scoring leaders play exactly or nearly the same offense.

I can agree with you guys, but all in all, it's Woodson's call on whether or not he wants to be in control of our offense or just give it to his superstar (aka ISO's). This proves to me that Woodson has no interest in our offense and teaches "great defense wins games" (which is why I like him).
We know Woodson's job is in jeopardy this offseason, which gives the Front Office a lot of options this year to steer this teams direction. Can he advance this team to the Conference Finals? Can he change before the playoffs and adjust the offense in a game when ISO's fail?
I've always seen this team as an X and O coach's dream (a balanced and versatile team that could take advantage of mismatches). It seems as though Woodson preaches defense and rewards them by letting them do their own thing on offense. CALL SOME PLAYS PLEASE AND TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR TEAM!!! Babying the team ultimately hurts them mentally and in our record. Do you think Jerry Sloan, Gregg Popovich, Doc Rivers (accomplished coaches) baby their players?!?
