Question about Josh Chilldress status

Post#1 » by geeman » Fri Apr 23, 2010 8:49 pm

Does anyone know if Josh is open to returning to the Hawks? If not, with his help, will we be able to sigh hime and use him with our first round draft pick to eether trade for a big or improve our chances of drafting a good one. Also if Mo Evans opts out of his final year (I think he will) is Josh Chilldress a better option ( he plays 3 positons) than Marvin. I know it a little early to be playing GM
but I can't help myself! I think Jeff is going to blow up next year and a starting defensive center moving Josh Smith to the sf ( just for the first ~ 5 -7 min ) so Al can play more PF and if we can keep JJ could get use to the finals next year. I really beleave this!!!

Last I remember he was pissed because the front office wanted to sign Smith before they turned their attention to him. I doubt he wants to come back. The rumors last summer were that he wanted to sign with some teams but was scared the hawks were gonna match it since he still is a rfa.

We can't package him with a pick unless it is after we pick because fa comes after the draft.

uga_dawgs24 summed it all up well. Here's more detail from what I remember: Last year he said he never wants to play for Atlanta again. It goes beyond Josh Smith was 1st priority. He felt disrespected in the initial negotiation, didn't feel the team was willing to work with him on S&T and also felt that they were undermining his opportunity to land a starting gig last year in Milwaukee by threatening to match. He also was upset that Woodson never gave him an opportunity to start. There is a lot of baggage in the situation with him. He has until 7/15 (I believe) to opt out of the last year of his Greek contract. I think he will if Atlanta has resigned Joe or if he thinks he can get a greater than MLE offer. If he doesn't opt out this year he'll not have as much bargaining power next summer with a lockout.

By the way the looming lockout is making this a very deep draft, you just got to be selective in who you pick. I like the possibility of landing a contributor in both the 1st and 2nd rounds this year.
Going to donkey punch a leprechaun!
