The 2 major differences between the 2004 Pistons and 2010 Hawks.

1. Ben Wallace and Sheed were alot better defensively than Al and Josh.

2. There is no offensive system that can hide the fact that your pg can't get within 15 feet of the basket. Replace Billups w/ this version of Bibby and the Pistons don't make any noise in the playoffs.

^ exactly, that is why i was btching last year about the deal Bibby got. i don't know how many times i said the Hawks should offer 20M to Jarrett Jack and that Indy would not match.... but everybody was happy about resigning Bibby last summer and not even making an attempt at Jack.

There is difference here.
Billups got a 60M+ contract after that. Bibby got 18M/3yrs.
Keeping Bibby for 6M/yr is not a bad move, because even with the lack of defense, if:
- the team defense is rightly set, you can play with Bibby at PG
- if he brings more in offense when on court, than the team loose in defense, he has an utility here.

The error is to think that Bibby, with a value of 6M at this age, is a starting PG for a contender.
If we keep him at this price, we have to get another solid PG. And there was not.

So if they did not want to add a solid PG like Jack, and let's see the one has to start, they should not have re-signed Bibby.
The move of keeping Bibby was supposed to be a transition, ending with a new PG becoming the real starter next season, not thinking is our Billups.

Bibby was necessary at the time because he was the closest thing we had to an offensive coach.

AL is a double-double machine. He plays like a champion. And he is a leader in the locker room.

And yet it is Horford who becomes passive and irrelevant when we need him most. The "champion" and "leader" hyperbole can only take the guy so far. it's Josh who has the actual ability to help take this team to the next level.
