3 options for the Hawks

3 options for the Hawks

#1 Stand Pat
They can do this with or without Joe and it won’t matter. If we resign Joe we will finish 3rd-6th in the east and lose in the 2nd round every year. If we don’t resign Joe, Crawford with Josh and Al will probably still keep us in the playoffs 5th-8th spots with mainly 1st round exits. This will be our fate for the next 4-6 years much like the Hawks of the 80s and 90s, not good enough to win anything and not bad enough to get a good pick.

#2 Resign Joe and Trade for a Questionable star.
Like Crawford, Marvin, Bibby and Zaza for Arenas and Howard. That would give us a strating 5 of
PG Arenas
SG Joe
SF Howard
PF Smooth
C Horford
IF and it is a BIG IF, they can keep there heads on straight that would give us a shot at winning a title in the next 4 years. It smells of Rider and Vick so it is a huge gamble (one I would rather take over doing nothing)

#3 Blow it up and hope for a superstar in the draft
Trade #1 Marvin, Jamal and our 1st to Philly for Brand and the #2 and take Turner (I have no Idea why they would do this but if Ford is right (it would be a first) I would be all over it.
Trade #2 Josh Smith to the Nets for the #3. A core of Harris, Smith and Lopez should be very attractive to LeBron. We take Cousins to play Center.
Trade #3 try and sign and trade Joe to NewOrleans for Peja MoPete and Collison . CP3, Joe, West and Okfor would be solid
New Hawks
PG Collison, Teague
SG Turner
SF J-Chill???
PF Al
C Cousins
You have one 24 year old All star and two potential superstars in Turner and Cousins and 2 shots at a good PG. Not to mention you would probably be pretty bad so you get a shot at a top pick in 2011 like SF Barnes out of UNC or SF Jones from Baylor .
IT would be painful to rebuild but it would give us the best chance of winning it all wich is what is all about.

If Marvin/Craw/#24 can get you the #2/Brand then you do that regardless of what your approach is. Turner will be better than anyone we could get with the cap room that makes up the difference between Brand and Marvin's contracts.

I would also sign up for Smith to NJ for #3 in nanoseconds. The difference is, I pick Favors. He is still 18 I think (maybe 19 now) and may still have growing to do. He is already 6'10 in shoes and 240 while being unselfish, very agile with soft hands.

Those trades aren't happening, though. The NJ trade may be a slight bit more realistic and I would push hard for it. Derrick Favors is a player I really covet going forward.

Trade Joe Johnson to Dallas for Erick Dampier/filler/Future Mavs 1st and then move Dampier for some favorable assets.

Teague/Turner/Favors/Horford would be an incredible nucleus moving forward.

Unfortunately, it isn't happening.

I agree the First trade is a reach (I would add in Horford to make it happen bye the way, you have to have a superstar in this leage and preferable 2, then I would take Favors @#3) but do you agree with my conclusions that if we dont do something drastic we are hosed and do you see any other options?

I'm someone that right now, if the options presented itself, would blow it up. Horford/Teague and the rights to Childress are the 3 things I'd like to keep. If NJ gets in a situation where they want to win now then maybe they'd consider Smith. Smith would be the perfect compliment to Lopez.

No way we can get a top 3 pick in the draft without giving up Josh Smith...impossible.

Best case if JJ leaves is if we can snag Beaubois from Dallas, that would be amazing...too good to be true in fact so it wont happen.
