A different trade with the Cavs - Varejao

Varejao, Leon Powe, and a future 2nd for Jamal Crawford.

Cleveland sheds Varejao's contract for Crawford's productive expiring and begins the rehaul.
We pick up Varejao, who is overpaid, but doesn't really matter since we just gave Joe 6/$123 anyways, and Powe. Varejao is a great defender and first big man off the bench who can play the 4 or 5 (except against Dwight), and Powe is a solid backup PF. We also don't especially need Crawford given that we drafted J.Crawford 2.0.

Cavs are not trading varejao for an expiring jamal crawford.

Even though he's owed $32 million over the next 4 years on a team that will likely struggle to crack 40 wins?

I don't think we'd trade for Varajeo with Horford's contract coming up next summer.

From an ownership perspective? Probably not... but we should.

I wouldn't want to take on Varejao's salary and then watch Horford walk next summer because they can't afford to match an offer sheet. I still don't believe the ASG will spend. From a talent stand point he'd help as he could be our 3rd big. He's got good length and great energy, but I'd still rather get greater bulk and length for the position than he provides.

I'm not seeing what would prevent us from matching any offer sheet outside of the ASG being chea... oh okay.
