What about getting Paul to ATL with IND and LAL's help?

ATL: out Bibby, Smoothe, PHO (or ATL) 2nd to IND, JC + rights to Gladyr, ATL (or PHO) 2nd to LA
in CP3 , Okafor to ATL
Get their all star PG, move Al to his natural position, could trade Okafor for Nene, Kaman, Bynum or similar C later

NO: out CP3, Okafor
in TJ Ford, Dunleavy, Vujacic, Salomon Jones, ATL 1st 11+12, IND 1st 11 (top 10 protected)
A chance to free additional 26M + in cap space (Traded expiring contracts), get a high 1st pick + 2 1st in 11 and 2 1st in 12. Nice way to rebuild around West (or else)

IND: out TJ, Dunleavy and S. Jones to NO, 1st IND to NO (top 10 protected),
in Bibby, Smoothe, 2nd PHO (or ATL: highest), 1st LA + Walton to IND
improve their frontcourt and start building around Granger-Smoothe-Hibbert

LAL: out Vujacic to NO, Walton + 1st to IND
in Jamaal Crawford + ATL or PHO 2nd + rights to Gladyr
get versatility and cap space with JC

ATL:
CP3- JT
JJ- JC2- Sy
Marvin- Evans- FA (Hayes)
Al- FA (Powell)- Zaza
Okafor- FA (Shaq???) Zaza

very strong starting 5 that could be improved by moving Okafor by the trade deadline...

NO:
TJ-Collison- Head
(Dunleavy)- vujacic- Thornton
Peja- Dunleavy- posey
West- FA
Jones- Songalia- FA

again, this is about saving money and rebuilding not winning today

IND:
Bibby- Price- FA?
D Jones- Rush- Stephenson
Granger- George- (walton)
Smith- Hansbrough- Mc Roberts
Murphy- Hibbert - (Foster)

rebuilding around Stephenson, Granger, Smith and Hibbert..

LAL:
Blake- Fisher- JC
Kobe- JC- FA (Gladyr??)
Artest- FA
Gasol-Odom-FA
Bynum- ratliff- FA

similar nucleus but adding to the fire power with Blake and even more JC

And now, his prefered destination would be ORL... welcome to several years in 3rd place in the Southeast, at best.

Here is an opurtunity for the Hawks to make good on one of the most underrated draft blunders when they passed on Paul for Williams. The Hawks should try to trade any and everyone except for Josh Smith and Johnson to get Paul. Al Horford, Jamaal Crawford, some young players and draft pick for Chris Paul could put the Hawks in the chase for the Finals. This would create a wonderful foundation to build on

Chris Paul
Joe Johnson
Damion Jones or Marvin Williams
Josh Smith
Emeka Okafor

Joe Johnson would be a true number to guy, Smith would thrive playing with Paul. And the frontcourt of Smith and Okafor can defend against the best. The only weakness would be post up scoring.

Taking Marvin over Paul isn't one of the most underrated draft blunders. The only national relevance the Hawks had for a full 3 years was when Chris Paul or Deron Williams were brought up. The most underrated draft blunder would be Portland trading down from the 3 spot because they had Sebastian Telfair.

While not mentioned as often as Darko over Carmelo, Wade, Bosh, etc., Marvin over Chris Paul and Deron Williams has gotten it fair share of national attention. Another underrated draft plunder was passing on Brandon Roy because we already had Joe Johnson to reach on Shelden Williams. A lot of people said that Brandon Roy couldn't be a PG, but the system run by Mike Woodson didn't even use a traditional PG and had it's best success with Jamal Crawford sharing major court time with Joe Johnson. It's obvious that Shelden Williams was a flop at #5, but it rarely gets mentioned what might have been. Roy, Johnson and Josh Smith could have a poor man's version of the Miami big 3 developing with 2 under rookie contracts at the time.

Chris Paul and James Posey for Jamal and Marvin

or

Chris Paul for Jamal and Jordan

........... just make the call. i just want to read some where that the Hawks are at least making an effort. i'm tried of every team taking a risk and the Hawks always just sit back every off season. the biggest trade the Hawks made was getting Crawford and look how great that turned out. but i just want to read something where the Hawks are at least trying to get involved, that would at least send a good message to not only the fans, but also the players.

So much for a few days of daydreaming about a top flight PG. Paul has backed down publicly which brings into question who started the rumors in the first place.

Actually Paul may still want a trade but I think New Orleans is a position where they don't have to give it to him. If he's still unhappy in 2 years maybe he opts out and goes to free agency. The Hawks have no chance in free agency. I'm not trying to be negative, it's just true. We either need to land players via draft or trade.
