Yes! Much better than Joe Smith!

EDIT* It's not so much Josh Powell as that we didn't just sign Joe Smith and be completely lazy.

I'm not sure how this is an upgrade over Joe Smith or someone like Othello Hunter. Below average defensive rebounder & shot blocker and appears to be a terrible offensive player. He seems pretty useless unless his post defense is amazing ala Chuck Hayes or Malik Rose.

Joe Smith did a decent job last year when he was on the court, I thought he should've gottten more playing time down the stretch. There were some rumblings a while back that ownership was a litttle upset with the lack of playing time Joe Smith got. Oh well, I don't know much about Powell but if he signs, I hope he brings something to the table.

Joe Smith and Josh Powell have near identical rebounding numbers for their careers. Joe Smith is also a better shot blocker.

An "active" player to be would be someone like Amir Johnson. He'll make alot of mental mistakes and fouls like crazy....but he also blocks shots, rebounds, and scores efficiently in the minutes he gets. Powell just seems like a guy who isn't good at anything. I'd easily take Shelden Williams before him and I was one of the biggest Shelden detractors on this board.

So this ends the chance of signing Shaq?

If you sign Shaq, you are talking about another big man.

Sund isn't bringing in another big man with this roster.

The Powell/Collins signings seals the deal.

Let me ask this: could Powell, who is on his 6th team in 5 years be a JJ Hickson for us? They are very similar players in my eyes.
What I am getting at is looking at the opportunity to move a PF currently on the roster. I think it gives us something to consider if he turns out to be a good investment for us.
I could also be reaching, but I still have hopes we can bring in Shaq, even though the hope is faint.

No. Hickson is significantly more athletic. Powell is 27. Hickson is, what, 21?

Yeah....low usage athletic big's don't usually shoot under 44% on 2 point shots for their career.

All signings for the minimum are low risk. My problem is that this signing is also low-reward for a guy who will probably be our 4th big man going into the season.

this has been the worst offseason of all time. seems like every halfway decent team in the east made improvements and the hawks made absolutely none.

heres to hoping crawford balls it up this year as a rookie. if not, we are looking at a first round ass raping

I got to watch a lot of Laker garbage time seeing how I am a Ammo fan. I got to see Josh Powell's game. and...Ouch!

He's your standard PF Jump shooting Chucker.

I am not familiar with your shooting coaches but they will have quite the task of helping this guy out.

I don't know how Powell played before the past two seasons but that's my only synopsis of him. Sometimes Hope gets you through things.
